JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com—Xiaomi Indonesia has officially launched the Redmi 17 in the Indonesian market. The entry-level smartphone starts at Rp2.9 million.
Xiaomi Indonesia PR Manager Abee Hakiem said the pricing of the Redmi 17 takes several factors into account, including the cost of components such as RAM, storage and the chipset.
“The strategy for determining the value of each Xiaomi product, not just the Redmi 17, is based on many factors,” he said in Jakarta on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
He said the increase in the cost of hardware components used in the Redmi 17 inevitably contributed to its starting price of Rp2.9 million. Beyond hardware, the product’s specifications and the various forms of support provided for the smartphone and its users also factor into the pricing.
He added that, in determining the value of the Redmi 17, Xiaomi also considers consumer needs, particularly those of younger users who are among the smartphone’s target audience.
Abee said the need for a large-capacity battery is one of the considerations, as consumers want a smartphone that can be used throughout the day without frequent interruptions to recharge.
According to him, this need is tied to a wide range of user activities, from content creation to watching long-form movies. The Redmi 17, he added, is therefore designed to give consumers greater freedom to use the smartphone according to their daily activities.
Xiaomi, he said, remains committed to its “Innovation for Everyone” mission by offering products that can be enjoyed by a broad range of Indonesian consumers based on their respective needs.
As for the Redmi 17’s sales target, Abee has not disclosed the figure set by Xiaomi. He said the company has prepared several sales channels to market the device.
The company has also not disclosed the number of units allocated for the initial distribution. Abee did not specify the volume of the first batch but said availability would be adjusted according to market demand. If demand increases, Xiaomi will prepare additional supplies.
