JAKARTA, JakartaWeekly.com — PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia has confirmed that its seven-seater electric vehicle, the Neira, will be launched in Indonesia in the near future. The company is currently preparing for the launch.

The information was disclosed by Chief Operating Officer Fransiscus Soerjopranoto to Jakarta Weekly on Thursday, October 8, 2026.

“We are currently focused on preparing the launch of our latest seven-seater EV, the Neira. Please wait for the launch date,” Soerjo said on Thursday, October 8, 2026.

Soerjo did not provide a specific launch date or details on the vehicle’s specifications and other information regarding the electric vehicle.

Previously, Hyundai introduced the NEIRA as a prototype seven-seater electric SUV targeted for local production at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (HMMI) in Cikarang, West Java.

At GIIAS 2026, Soerjo said the NEIRA is targeted to have a domestic component level (TKDN) of around 80%.

“The TKDN can be confirmed at around 80%. We hope production can start sooner this year. If it is delayed, it may be early next year,” he said.

The NEIRA was introduced as a seven-seater electric SUV designed to meet the environmentally friendly mobility needs of Indonesian families. At the time, the NEIRA was still a prototype, and Hyundai had not disclosed all of the vehicle’s technical specifications.

Fransiscus also referred to the NEIRA as a “local product, an Indonesian product.” The vehicle is targeted for assembly at the HMMI facility in Cikarang.

The name NEIRA is derived from Banda Neira, an area in the Banda Islands, Maluku, known for its rich history, culture, and natural beauty.

Previously, Hyundai incorporated Indonesian identity into its products through the STARGAZER Cartenz, which was inspired by Puncak Cartenz in Indonesia.

Hyundai described the STARGAZER Cartenz and STARGAZER Cartenz X as part of its effort to deliver “The Real Indonesian Car.” Both models were developed with adjustments to suit Indonesian roads and the mobility needs of Indonesian consumers.

The STARGAZER Cartenz and STARGAZER Cartenz X are also produced in Indonesia and prepared for international markets.

With the NEIRA, Hyundai has applied this approach to an electric vehicle. The NEIRA was introduced as a prototype seven-seater electric SUV designed for the environmentally friendly mobility needs of Indonesian families.

As it was still a prototype at the time, Hyundai had not yet announced all of the NEIRA’s technical specifications. Details including battery capacity, electric motor output, driving range, charging capability, and other final specifications were still awaiting an official announcement from Hyundai.
