JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com — BMW Group Indonesia recorded a more than 35% increase in sales at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026 compared with its performance at the 2025 automotive exhibition.
President Director of BMW Group Indonesia Peter “Sunny” Medalla said the result marked a highly positive achievement for the company. He made the remarks during an event in Jakarta on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026, where BMW handed over vehicles to support the Maybank Marathon 2026.
“Sales were up more than 35% compared with the 2025 Motor Show. This is all because of you,” Sunny said.
According to Sunny, the achievement was driven by a number of factors that contributed to BMW’s performance during the exhibition. He also expressed his appreciation for the support from various parties that helped the company deliver the result.
GIIAS 2026 also provided BMW with an opportunity to introduce its next direction through the arrival of the BMW iX3. The model is part of BMW’s next-generation lineup developed on the Neue Klasse platform.
“The BMW iX3 is something I am very excited about. It is the first model of a new era for BMW,” Sunny said.
He said the response to the BMW iX3 following its Indonesian debut had been very positive. According to him, the iX3 is more than just a new model, as it marks the beginning of the next generation of BMW products.
“This is the very first of a new era,” he said.
Sunny said dozens of new models would follow the iX3, using the same platform and underlying technology concept. This positions the iX3 as a key model in BMW’s transformation toward its next generation of vehicles.
In addition to discussing BMW’s GIIAS 2026 performance and the arrival of the iX3, Sunny highlighted BMW’s partnership with Maybank through Maybank Marathon 2026.
As part of the event, BMW handed over vehicles that will serve as lead cars to guide the race. According to Sunny, every runner has a different story, purpose and character, but they all share the same finish line.
“Months of preparation, months of training, months of proper nutrition. At the heart of all of this is the lead car, which sets the direction,” he said.
According to Sunny, the lead car also plays a role in controlling the pace and ensuring the race runs smoothly. This year, the role is increasingly tied to electrification technology.
“This year, that responsibility is truly electric,” Sunny said.
The BMW iX3 will be among the vehicles used in this capacity. For BMW Group Indonesia, its involvement in Maybank Marathon goes beyond brand visibility, encompassing partnership, performance, innovation and progress.
Sunny said BMW’s partnership with Maybank dates back to 2019. According to him, the cooperation is not simply about providing vehicles, but also about supporting the organization of a world-class event.
“This partnership is not just about simply providing cars. It is also about enabling a world-class event,” Sunny said.
