Ahead of Ascension Day Holiday, KAI Adds 9 Long-Distance Train Services from Jakarta

JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com – PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), Operational Area 1 Jakarta, is adding nine Long-Distance Train (KAJJ) services to anticipate a surge in public mobility during the 2026 Ascension Day holiday period. The additional services focus on popular routes departing from Gambir and Pasar Senen Stations.

Franoto Wibowo, Manager of Public Relations at PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daop 1 Jakarta, said the measure aligns with projections of increased passenger volume during the holiday period from May 13 to 18, 2026. During this period, KAI Daop 1 Jakarta will operate 68 regular train services daily, excluding the nine additional trips.

The extra services consist of eight departures from Gambir Station and one departure from Pasar Senen Station. “With this addition, seat capacity increases to approximately 18,968 seats,” he said in a statement on Monday, May 11, 2026.

He noted that peak departures are expected on May 13–14, 2026, with 31,338 and 30,116 passengers respectively. Meanwhile, the highest arrival volume is projected on May 17, 2026, reaching 33,030 passengers.

In total, KAI Daop 1 Jakarta recorded more than 102,000 departing passengers and around 111,000 arriving passengers during the holiday period.

Popular destination cities include Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Semarang, Purwokerto, Bandung, and Jember.

He said the high mobility during the long holiday reflects continued public trust in rail travel as a long-distance transportation mode, with safety, punctuality, and comfort cited as the main reasons.

The company also ensures smooth operations through readiness of rolling stock, improved station services, and strengthened field personnel during the holiday transport period.

The additional train services operated during this period are as follows:

• Extra Gambir–Yogyakarta (05.15 WIB and 16.25 WIB)
• Extra Purwojaya Gambir–Cilacap (07.00 WIB and 13.25 WIB)
• Batavia Gambir–Solo Balapan (09.35 WIB)
• Argo Parahyangan Gambir–Bandung (13.40 WIB)
• Extra Pasar Senen–Lempuyangan (15.25 WIB)
• Extra Argo Anjasmoro Gambir–Surabaya Pasarturi (23.35 WIB)
• Cheribon Fakultatif Gambir–Cirebon (23.55 WIB)
