IAPVC 2026 Opens Registration, Adds New Wildlife Journalist Category

JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com — The International Animal Photo & Video Competition (IAPVC) 2026 is now open for registration until September 30, inviting photography and video enthusiasts to showcase their work while raising awareness of wildlife conservation.

This year, IAPVC is once again inviting the public to participate through various competition categories, a series of roadshows, and activities that allow participants to engage directly with wildlife and conservation areas.

Alexander Zulkarnain, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Taman Safari Indonesia, said IAPVC is more than a competition, as it provides a platform to bring conservation issues closer to the public through visual storytelling.

“This is more than just a competition. It is an opportunity to educate the public about wildlife conservation through media that are closest to everyday life, namely photos and videos,” he said.

Public participation in IAPVC has continued to grow in recent years. The number of participants increased from 2,998 in 2022 to 9,115 in 2025, while the number of submitted works rose from 8,789 to 26,291 over the same period.

The growing participation reflects the development of IAPVC as a platform that brings together photographers, videographers, communities, nature enthusiasts, and the general public through stories about wildlife. Thousands of works have captured the beauty, behavior, and diversity of wildlife from around the world, while encouraging audiences to develop greater empathy toward wildlife and understand the importance of conservation.

In 2026, the IAPVC roadshow will take place at Taman Safari Bogor, Solo Safari, and Taman Safari Prigen. The program will feature activities ranging from regional competitions to opportunities for direct community engagement.

IAPVC 2026 will feature several competition categories, including Wildlife Photo Story, Wildlife Young Creator, Wildlife Short Video Story, and Wildlife Roadshow Story Challenge. Two new categories have also been introduced this year: Wildlife Journalist Story and People’s Choice Awards.

The 2026 edition carries the theme “From Lens to Legacy,” positioning visual works not merely as documentation, but also as a legacy of wildlife conservation for future generations.

The theme continues IAPVC’s efforts to develop new ways of telling stories about wildlife. In 2023, the competition adopted the theme “Story of the Wild, Capture Through Your Lens,” followed by “Soul of the Wild” in 2024 and “The Picture of Secret Nature” in 2025.

Established in 1990 as a wildlife photography competition, IAPVC is an annual wildlife photography and videography event organized by Taman Safari Indonesia (TSI) as part of its commitment to educating the public about wildlife conservation and environmental preservation.

The role of photography and video as conservation storytelling is also reflected in the works of IAPVC winners from recent editions. In 2023, Gerdie Hutomo Nurhadi won the top award for a photograph capturing an orangutan scooping water with a dry leaf.

Meanwhile, Adhitiya Wibhawa won the Grand Prize in 2025 with a portrait of a Javan hawk-eagle. The works demonstrate how wildlife photography can go beyond capturing a moment and serve as a medium for conveying conservation messages.
