Jakartaweekly.com — JAKARTA. As insurers face growing pressure to improve efficiency while maintaining strict regulatory and risk controls, NTT DATA has launched NTT DATA AI for Insurance, an agentic AI solution designed to turn complex insurance workflows into governed, repeatable services.
The solution is built for highly regulated insurance environments, combining configurable AI agents, insurance-specific data models, workflow orchestration and enterprise-grade governance. It is designed to help insurers modernize core processes such as underwriting, claims and customer service while maintaining human oversight, auditability and regulatory controls.
Powered by NTT DATA AIVista, the company’s AI-native product platform, NTT DATA AI for Insurance provides insurers with a prebuilt foundation that can be configured and customized according to their products, processes, operating models and regulatory requirements.
The company says the approach is intended to help insurers move beyond isolated AI pilots toward broader adoption across their core operations.
“Insurance is built on human judgment that understands risk, prices fairly and stands behind promises when it matters most,” said Bruno Abril, Global Lead, Insurance Industry, NTT DATA, Inc.
“AI strengthens the ability of insurers to meet that responsibility, and NTT DATA AI for Insurance supports human expertise with intelligent systems that work within a governed operating layer for enterprise-scale transformation.”
The launch comes as insurers increasingly explore agentic AI to improve productivity and decision-making. According to NTT DATA’s 2026 Global AI Report: A Playbook for AI Leaders in Insurance, two-thirds of insurers want to use AI in front-office interactions, while 86% support AI use in back- and mid-office workflows. However, the report also found that most insurers have yet to industrialize agentic AI across their core operations.
NTT DATA AI for Insurance is designed to address this gap by embedding AI into existing insurance workflows rather than requiring carriers to replace their core systems.
The solution includes specialized AI models and agents trained on carrier and insurance-specific data, helping improve reliability, accuracy and cost efficiency. It also incorporates specialized guardrails that are designed to embed governance into AI decision-making and support deterministic, auditable outcomes.
An AI-native knowledge base and NTT DATA’s proprietary insurance data genome provide additional context for AI agents to interpret information across submissions, policies, claims and regulatory requirements. This allows the technology to work with the data, systems and processes already used by insurers.
The platform also includes prebuilt and configurable AI agents, which NTT DATA says can enable up to three times faster deployment across underwriting, claims, customer service and other insurance workflows.
Rather than operating AI agents independently, the solution uses cognitive and event-driven orchestration to coordinate AI agents, employees, enterprise systems and business processes according to each insurer’s operating requirements.
This approach is particularly relevant as insurers seek to balance the potential efficiency gains of AI with the need for human accountability. The system is designed around human oversight, allowing AI to support employees while maintaining governance throughout operational processes.
The solution is also designed for open integration with existing carrier systems and enterprise technology environments, allowing insurers to introduce AI capabilities without becoming dependent on a particular core system. Its model-routing capabilities are similarly intended to reduce reliance on a single foundation AI model.
The need for such flexibility is becoming increasingly important as insurance companies manage growing volumes of data while dealing with complex regulatory and operational requirements.
“Insurance is generating more data than ever before, but better outcomes depend on how effectively that information is translated into action,” said Prashant Hinge, Chief Information Officer at MSIG USA.
“AI can help insurers identify high-risk claims sooner, improve consistency throughout the claims process, and equip claims professionals with the insights they need to make faster, more informed decisions.”
NTT DATA is positioning the new solution around its existing insurance expertise, rather than AI technology alone. The company currently serves 10 of the world’s 25 largest insurers, operates 16 insurance-focused delivery centers, and employs more than 12,000 insurance specialists worldwide.
Its capabilities have also received external industry recognition, with NTT DATA named a leader in the HFS Horizons: Agentic Services, 2026 Research Report and ISG Provider Lens – Insurance Services – Strategic Capabilities, specifically for Insurance GenAI and Agentic AI Services.
With NTT DATA AI for Insurance, the company aims to help insurers transition from using AI to enhance individual workflows toward establishing AI-enabled operations at enterprise scale—while retaining the governance, transparency and human judgment required in a highly regulated industry.
