JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com — The Financial Services Authority (OJK) recorded a 50.73% year-on-year (yoy) increase in loan disbursements by the pawnshop industry in July 2026, reaching Rp160.78 trillion, while maintaining a controlled credit risk level.

The largest portion of loans disbursed by the pawnshop industry came from pawn-based products, totaling Rp136.39 trillion, or 84.43% of total loans disbursed by the industry.

Funding for the pawnshop industry reached Rp126.93 trillion in July 2026, an increase of 65.71% yoy. Funding sources for pawnshop companies consisted of borrowings amounting to Rp111.46 trillion (87.81%) and issued securities totaling Rp15.47 trillion (12.19%).

“OJK will continue to promote the development of a healthy, transparent, and sustainable pawnshop industry to support greater financial inclusion and expand public access to formal financial services throughout Indonesia,” OJK said in a press release on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

Furthermore, OJK is encouraging the strengthening of the pawnshop industry by approving changes in the business operating scope from the provincial to the national level for two pawnshop companies, namely PT Gadai Mulia Sejahtera and PT Solusi Gadai Pintar.

Approval for PT Gadai Mulia Sejahtera to expand its business operations nationwide was granted through OJK Letter No. S-79/PL.02/2026 dated September 18, 2026, while PT Solusi Gadai Pintar received approval through OJK Letter No. S-80/PL.02/2026 dated September 21, 2026.

The approvals were granted after the companies fulfilled the requirements and completed the licensing documents in accordance with OJK Regulation No. 39 of 2024 on Pawnshop Businesses, as amended by OJK Regulation No. 29 of 2025.

With these approvals, PT Gadai Mulia Sejahtera and PT Solusi Gadai Pintar can conduct pawnshop business activities throughout the territory of the Republic of Indonesia, provided they continue to comply with applicable laws and regulations and good corporate governance principles.

Previously, OJK had also approved nationwide business operating scopes for four private pawnshop companies: PT Gadai Mas Nusantara, PT Gadai Sakti Indonesia (formerly PT Gadai Sakti Jakarta), PT Pusat Gadai Indonesia, and PT Gadai Elektronik Jakarta.

The presence of these nationwide pawnshop companies further strengthens Indonesia’s pawnshop industry ecosystem, alongside PT Pegadaian (Persero), which has long operated nationwide to serve financing needs across the country.

Several other pawnshop companies have also submitted applications to expand their business operations nationwide, and their licensing applications are currently being processed.

The expansion of business operating areas is expected to increase companies’ business capacity, broaden access to legal and registered pawnshop services, and provide wider financing access to people in various regions. This initiative is also in line with OJK’s efforts to strengthen the pawnshop industry by expanding business scale, improving governance, and increasing access to safe and reliable financial services for the public.
