JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com—BMW was among the brands that recorded strong sales performance from January to July 2026, with growth seen in both wholesales, or vehicle deliveries from manufacturers to dealers, and retail sales, or sales from dealers to consumers.
Data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo) showed a significant difference between BMW’s wholesales and retail sales growth during the January-July 2026 period compared with the same period last year.
BMW’s wholesales surged 54.1% in January-July 2026, from 836 units to 1,288 units, representing an increase of 452 units.
Meanwhile, retail sales rose 8.2%, from 1,263 units to 1,367 units, an increase of 104 units.
Retail sales during the first seven months of this year were also higher than wholesales, with 1,367 units sold to consumers compared with 1,288 units distributed from the manufacturer to dealers.
BMW Group Indonesia President Director Peter “Sunny” Medalla said the difference in growth between wholesales and retail sales could be attributed to vehicle distribution timing and the introduction of several new models.
“The gap is mainly related to timing and our new model introductions this year,” he told Jakarta Weekly on Friday, August 14, 2026.
He said the company had significantly refreshed its BMW model lineup, which naturally resulted in more vehicles entering the dealer network to ensure availability across Indonesia.
He added that the company’s retail sales also grew during the January-July 2026 period, indicating that consumer demand remained positive.
“We are managing supply carefully to keep it aligned with market demand,” he said.
Previously, BMW also recorded positive sales results at GIIAS 2026. Sunny said the company recorded a 35% increase in orders during the exhibition compared with its performance at the 2025 motor show.
“Sales were up more than 35% compared with the 2025 Motor Show. This is all because of you,” Sunny said.
According to Sunny, the achievement was driven by several factors that contributed to BMW’s performance during the exhibition. He also expressed his appreciation for the support from various parties that helped the company deliver the result.
GIIAS 2026 also provided BMW with an opportunity to showcase the brand’s future direction through the introduction of the BMW iX3. The model is part of BMW’s next-generation lineup developed on the Neue Klasse platform.
“The BMW iX3 is something I am very excited about. It is the first model of a new era for BMW,” Sunny said.
He said the response to the BMW iX3 following its Indonesian debut had been very positive. According to him, the iX3 is more than just a new model, as it marks the beginning of the next generation of BMW products.
“This is the very first of a new era,” he said.
Sunny said dozens of new models would follow the iX3, using the same platform and underlying technology concept. This positions the iX3 as a key model in BMW’s transformation toward its next generation of vehicles.
