JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com — The number of passengers alighting at Sudirman Baru/BNI City Station surged 326% to 8,679 as of 10 a.m. Jakarta time on the first day of the rerouting of Jabodetabek Commuter Line services from Karet Station on Tuesday (Sept. 1, 2026).
KAI Commuter VP of Corporate Secretary Karina Amanda said the number of passengers alighting at Sudirman Baru/BNI City Station stood at 2,036 before the rerouting. Meanwhile, 641 passengers boarded trains at the station on the first day of the service change.
“Based on data on passengers boarding and alighting at Sudirman Baru/BNI City Station as of 10 a.m., 8,679 passengers had alighted, while 641 passengers had boarded,” Karina said at Jakarta, Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026.
KAI Commuter expects passenger numbers at Sudirman Baru/BNI City Station to continue increasing following the rerouting of services from Karet Station.
The number of passengers boarding trains at the station is projected to reach 20,513, while the number of passengers alighting is expected to reach 18,696. Despite the increase in passenger volume, the number of Cikarang Commuter Line trips passing through Sudirman Baru/BNI City Station will remain unchanged at 264 trips.
Karina said the anticipated increase in passenger volume had been supported by the capacity and facilities available at Sudirman Baru/BNI City Station.
“The station can accommodate up to 2,000 passengers per hour,” Karina said.
Starting Tuesday, passengers who previously boarded or alighted at Karet Station are being redirected to Sudirman Baru/BNI City Station. Access to the station is available via the walkway beside Karet Station, which is connected to the lower western hall of Sudirman Baru/BNI City Station.
The hall is equipped with electronic gates, ticket counters and other passenger service facilities.
An entrance and exit from Jl. Jenderal Sudirman has also been opened, equipped with gates and ticketing staff to facilitate access for passengers heading to office buildings in the Sudirman area.
To support the service rerouting, KAI Commuter has deployed personnel and information facilities at several points. Directional signs, service staff, signage and passenger-flow arrangements have been put in place to help passengers adjust to the changes in travel patterns.
“We urge passengers to always pay attention to information and instructions from station staff,” Karina said.
KAI Commuter will also conduct daily evaluations of the service rerouting. The evaluations will take into account passenger feedback to ensure Commuter Line operations remain optimal while integration work is underway.
KAI Commuter has also urged passengers to help maintain the infrastructure and service facilities in the new hall at Sudirman Baru/BNI City Station.
Information on train schedules and the locations of Commuter Line services departing from Sudirman Baru/BNI City Station is available through the C-Access application.
