Starting Today, ASDP Launches Trial Port Area Sterilization at Merak-Bakauheni
JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com—PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) began a trial implementation of port area sterilization at Merak and Bakauheni Ports on Monday (June 1, 2026). The policy will tighten supervision of vehicles, personnel, and various operational activities within the port areas before being fully implemented on June 15, 2026.
ASDP President Director Heru Widodo said that the port area sterilization is part of the company’s efforts to establish a more orderly, secure, and modern port management system.
Through this policy, access within the port areas will be more tightly controlled, thereby improving safety and security standards.
“The implementation of this policy reflects our commitment to creating a more orderly, secure, and modern port management system. Through this program, activities within the port areas will become more organized, access will be better controlled, and all parties operating in the area will be able to carry out their duties while prioritizing safety and security to the highest standards,” Heru said in a written statement.
As part of the implementation, ASDP is strengthening monitoring and control systems throughout all operational areas of the ports. The company is also regulating activities according to the functions and authorities of each party operating within the port areas.
In addition, all personnel are required to wear identification badges and personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with regulations. Access for vehicles and personnel is also being managed through the use of stickers and digital platforms to support more effective supervision.
He added that ASDP is also enhancing coordination with various stakeholders to ensure smooth port operations throughout the trial period.
At Merak Port, the sterilization program is supported by the implementation of a One Gate System, which has been in the trial phase since May 25, 2026. Under this system, all vehicles using both Express and Regular services are directed to enter the port through a single main access point at the Executive Gate, making traffic flow easier to monitor and control.

Meanwhile, Bakauheni Port relies on technology-based monitoring through the development of Face Recognition systems, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), CCTV, vehicle monitoring, and integrated digital systems to support security and operational control.
ASDP expects the port sterilization policy to create a more orderly working environment while improving service quality for ferry passengers and users on the Merak–Bakauheni route.
