JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com—Antam gold prices are expected to strengthen next week amid rising global gold prices, driven by geopolitical developments and plans to resume shipping activity through the Strait of Hormuz. Antam gold prices are projected to trade around Rp2.55 million per gram, with resistance at Rp2.82 million per gram.
Ibrahim Assuabi, Director of PT Traze Andalan Futures, said spot gold prices are expected to trade between US$4,151 and US$4,492 per troy ounce next week.
“If we look at Monday (August 10, 2026), support is likely to be at US$4,279, while resistance is at US$4,405 per troy ounce. So, based on global gold price transactions on Monday, prices are likely to strengthen,” Ibrahim said in Jakarta on Sunday, August 9, 2026).
The rise in global gold prices has been partly driven by developments surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. Iran and Oman have discussed mechanisms to regulate shipping traffic through the strait and reached an understanding on the coordinates of the shipping route.
However, the two countries are still discussing the mechanism for managing the Strait of Hormuz and have yet to reach a final agreement. Iran has also continued attacks on vessels owned by the United Arab Emirates that had passed through the Strait of Hormuz before the agreement with Oman was reached.
In global markets, spot gold prices briefly jumped 4.44% to US$4,253.36 per troy ounce. Gold also climbed as high as US$4,264.93 per troy ounce, its highest level since June 18.
Gold prices are also being influenced by other geopolitical risks. President Donald Trump is still considering a ground operation, as the US administration believes air strikes alone may not be sufficient to achieve its objectives.
“This will increase tensions, although there has not been any major escalation so far,” Ibrahim said.
In Eastern Europe, Russia continues to launch long-range missile strikes against Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. Meanwhile, markets are closely watching the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy outlook ahead of its interest rate decision in September 2026.
US economic data have also shown signs of weakness, particularly in the labor market. The US economy lost around 23,000 jobs, compared with expectations for an increase of approximately 85,000 new jobs. The development has led markets to expect the Federal Reserve to maintain its current interest rate stance.
However, Ibrahim said there is still a possibility of a shift in the Fed’s policy if oil prices decline and US inflation eases again.
Brent crude was trading at US$83.35 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) stood at US$78.18 per barrel. If oil prices continue to decline, investors could shift some of their funds into safe-haven assets such as gold.
Against this backdrop, Ibrahim said gold prices still have room to rise. If a deal is ultimately reached in the Middle East, global gold prices could potentially reach US$5,000 per troy ounce in the third quarter of 2026. Meanwhile, domestic gold bullion prices could rise above Rp3 million per gram.
