KAI Adds More Services, Extra Surabaya – Jakarta Trains Now Available

JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com—PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Regional Divison 8 Surabaya has once again added a train service from Surabaya Pasarturi Station to Jakarta in an effort to provide an alternative transportation option for the public following the impact of the Mount Anak Krakatau eruption.

The additional service is the Surabaya Pasarturi (SBI)–Gambir (GMR) Extra Train, which is scheduled to depart today, Monday (Sept. 7), from Surabaya Pasarturi Station at 2:10 p.m. local time and arrive at Gambir Station in Jakarta. The Surabaya Pasarturi–Gambir Extra Train consists of three executive-class carriages and six New Generation Economy-class carriages, with a total capacity of 582 seats.

In addition to adding a new train service, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya has also increased the capacity of the evening Anggrek Train, which departs at 9:15 p.m. Previously operating with eight executive-class carriages, the train will now operate with nine executive-class carriages, bringing its total capacity to 450 seats.

The capacity increase is part of KAI’s response to growing public demand for travel. With the additional service and increased capacity, passengers will have more options for traveling by train.

KAI Daop 8 Surabaya Public Relations Manager Mahendro Trang Bawono said the additional service demonstrates KAI’s readiness to provide transportation services for people who need alternative travel options, particularly amid the impact of the Mount Anak Krakatau eruption.

“KAI Daop 8 Surabaya continues to strive to provide safe and comfortable train services that can serve as an alternative transportation option for the public. We hope the addition of the Surabaya Pasarturi–Gambir Extra Train will provide an alternative for people traveling to Jakarta,” Mahendro said.

The high demand for travel is also reflected in the number of passengers served by KAI Daop 8 Surabaya. On Sunday (Sept. 6), a total of 40,723 passengers boarded or alighted from trains across the KAI Daop 8 Surabaya area. This figure was 8% higher than the 37,657 passengers recorded on the same day, Sunday (Aug. 30).

As of 8:30 a.m. local time on Monday (Sept. 7), KAI Daop 8 Surabaya had recorded 39,312 passengers, consisting of 17,029 passengers boarding and 22,283 passengers alighting.

KAI Daop 8 Surabaya is also continuing to monitor train operations and coordinate with various relevant parties to ensure that train services continue to operate with safety and security as the top priorities.

Passengers planning to travel by train are advised to check the latest information regarding train schedules and book tickets through the Access by KAI app, KAI’s official website, or other official ticketing channels.
