JAKARTA, JakartaWeekly.com — Korean Register (KR) has launched the pilot service of the KR Cyber Resilience Platform (KR-CRP), a digital platform designed to help shipowners and shipyards comply with the cyber resilience requirements set out in IACS Unified Requirement (UR) E26.

Yongsok Lee, Chairman and CEO of KR, said cyber resilience has become a prerequisite for safe and reliable shipping as connectivity between ships and shore-based systems continues to increase.

“As ships and shore-side systems become more connected, cyber resilience is fast becoming a prerequisite for safe and reliable shipping,” Lee said.

The pilot service was launched at the Wyndham Grand Busan in South Korea on October 13, 2026, with nearly 100 participants in attendance. They included executives from shipping companies and ship managers such as SK Shipping, H-Line Shipping, Hyundai LNG Shipping, HMM Ocean Service and POS SM, as well as representatives from system integration (SI), cybersecurity and information technology (IT) solution companies.

KR-CRP provides a digital environment for preparing and managing design documents required under IACS UR E26 on ship cyber resilience. The platform is integrated with KR’s drawing approval and classification survey processes to reduce the documentation and approval burden on shipowners and shipyards.

During a demonstration at the event, KR showed how KR-CRP can use data from onboard security monitoring systems developed and installed by third parties. This capability is intended to support data-driven classification surveys, streamline survey preparations and reduce the time required for onboard inspections.

KR also announced plans to establish an internal collaborative framework to ensure a prompt and systematic response to cyber incidents involving ships. KR’s Statutory System Certification Team will serve as the single point of contact for incident reporting.

The team works with shipping companies on audits under the International Safety Management (ISM) Code and the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. Relevant departments will collaborate on technical analysis, recovery support, vessel safety verification and survey assistance.

KR will use feedback from shipowners and shipyards gathered during the pilot service to further improve the platform’s functionality and usability.

“We will continue to support our clients, including shipowners and shipyards, with practical, technology-driven services such as KR-CRP to help ease the burden of regulatory compliance and allow them to focus on operating safely at sea,” Lee said.
