Bogor – Jakartaweekly.com – In line with Indonesia’s push to strengthen national healthcare independence, PT Astra KomponASen Indonesia (ASKI), a subsidiary of PT Astra Otoparts Tbk (AUTO), has launched six digital-based medical devices on April 1.
The newly introduced devices include a 4D ultrasonography system, syringe pump, infusion pump, 12-channel electrocardiograph, and two multifunction health monitoring tools—GCU 4-in-1 and GCU 3-in-1. These devices are integrated with digital applications and predictive analytics powered by artificial intelligence (AI), enabling more efficient and connected healthcare services.
By leveraging domestic research and development (R&D) capabilities and local manufacturing facilities, ASKI aims to expand Indonesia’s locally produced medical device portfolio while increasing adoption across healthcare facilities. This initiative is expected to reduce reliance on imported products, create jobs, and contribute to national economic growth.
Indonesia’s Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, welcomed the initiative, highlighting three key priorities: ensuring affordable and high-quality medical devices, strengthening national health system resilience, and creating employment opportunities through local industry development.
ASKI President Director Hamdhani Dzulkarnaen Salim on the press statement (1/4) emphasized the company’s commitment to advancing innovation through R&D, domestic production, and technology-driven solutions. He noted that strengthening the local medical device industry is essential to delivering more accessible, equitable, and sustainable healthcare services across Indonesia.
During the launch, the Minister also visited ASKI’s production facilities, including plastic injection, R&D labs, and showrooms, showcasing the company’s readiness to produce advanced medical technologies domestically.
According to data from Indonesia’s Ministry of Health, the use of locally manufactured medical devices in healthcare facilities has risen significantly—from around 12% in 2019 to 48% in 2024. However, imported products still dominate the market, with more than 59,000 foreign devices compared to approximately 19,000 locally produced ones.
To address this gap, ASKI is strengthening collaboration across the healthcare ecosystem, including partnerships with government institutions, universities, distributors, and industry players. One key collaboration is with PT Darya-Varia Laboratoria Tbk, focusing on digital-based medical solutions.
Notably, the GCU 4-in-1 device integrates blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, and uric acid testing into a single tool—the first of its kind in Indonesia—while the GCU 3-in-1 offers a more compact solution for routine health screening. Both devices support early detection of non-communicable diseases and promote data-driven healthcare monitoring.
Since diversifying into the medical device sector in 2020, ASKI has developed over 30 products with local content levels ranging between 40% and 59%. All product development processes—from design to software and manufacturing—are conducted domestically, reinforcing the company’s role in building a competitive and sustainable national medical device industry.
