Soekarno-Hatta Ranks Sixth Worldwide for Layover Dining Options

TANGERANG, Jakartaweekly.com — Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has ranked sixth worldwide in the Best Airports for Layover Food ranking released by Airport Parking & Hotels (APH).

The study found that Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has 133 restaurants and cafes spread across its passenger terminals. The figure places the airport among the world’s top 10 airports with the largest number of restaurants and cafes available to passengers during layovers.

Singapore Changi Airport ranked first with 247 restaurants and cafes, followed by O’Hare International Airport in Chicago with 210 options and Tokyo Haneda Airport with 173.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport ranked fourth with 165 restaurants and cafes, while New York’s LaGuardia Airport ranked fifth with 142 options.

Soekarno-Hatta ranked ahead of Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, which has 131 restaurants and cafes; New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport with 129 options; Shanghai Pudong International Airport with 126; and Istanbul Airport with 118.

Heru Karyadi, General Manager of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, said the restaurants and cafes are among the facilities available to passengers while they are at the airport.

“We are certainly proud of this achievement. The presence of 133 restaurants and cafes at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport shows that the airport continues to evolve, not only as a place for passengers to depart and arrive, but also as part of their journey, providing them with greater choice and convenience while at the airport,” Heru said on Monday, August 31, 2026.

Ranking of 50 Busiest Airports

The APH study compiled a list of the world’s 50 busiest airports and compared them based on 12 factors related to passenger convenience and ease during layovers.

In addition to the number of restaurants and cafes, the indicators included restaurant ratings, food price ranges, availability of showers and sleeping pods, Wi-Fi, ATMs, the number and prices of airport lounges, daily flight volumes, and airport ratings based on Google Reviews.

Each indicator was given equal weight in calculating the overall Layover Score.

With 133 restaurants and cafes, Soekarno-Hatta was the only Indonesian airport to make the top 10 of the ranking.

Heru said the variety of dining facilities is among the aspects being considered amid the high volume of passenger traffic at the airport.

“What matters most is ensuring that every development genuinely benefits passengers. We will continue making improvements in facilities, commercial areas, and services so that the travel experience at Soekarno-Hatta becomes more comfortable and memorable,” Heru said.
