JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com—Deputy Minister of Industry Faisol Riza said the 2026 edition of Food Ingredients Asia (FI Asia) Indonesia would play an important role in supporting the government’s target of increasing Indonesia’s food and beverage exports to US$83 billion by 2029.

According to Faisol, FI Asia is not merely an exhibition, but also serves as a platform for strengthening business networks, facilitating knowledge transfer, and connecting domestic producers with global industry players and stakeholders.

“FI Asia is not only an exhibition platform, but also facilitates B2B business networking and knowledge transfer, while serving as a strategic platform connecting national producers of food and beverage raw materials and finished products with global industry stakeholders,” Faisol said while opening Food Ingredients Asia Indonesia 2026 at Jakarta International Expo in Jakarta on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026.

The Ministry of Industry, he said, projects Indonesia’s food and beverage exports to reach US$83 billion by 2029. The target represents a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.9%.

To achieve the target, the government has set several strategic targets for the national food and beverage industry through 2029.

These include accelerating industrial downstreaming, increasing industrial capacity utilization to 70%, raising the proportion of downstream product exports, and expanding market access to 20 new export destinations.

The market expansion will focus primarily on non-traditional markets with high potential in North America, South America, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and South Asia.

Faisol also identified Kuwait and Uruguay as among the markets targeted for expansion.

“To achieve this target, the organization of Food Ingredients Asia Indonesia 2026 plays a very important role,” Faisol said.

He expressed hope that FI Asia Indonesia 2026 would strengthen business partnership networks, encourage high-value-added investment, and support the development of Indonesia’s food and beverage industry to become more competitive in the global market.

“On this occasion, I hope that Food Ingredients Asia Indonesia 2026 will strengthen business partnership networks, encourage high-value-added investment, and contribute to the advancement of a globally competitive food and beverage sector,” he said.

Faisol said the development prospects of the food and beverage industry were supported by the sector’s continued positive performance.

In the first half of 2026, Indonesia’s food and beverage exports reached US$24.61 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of US$17.67 billion.

Meanwhile, food and beverage exports totaled US$49.5 billion throughout 2025, with a trade surplus of US$36.1 billion.

The exports were supported by key commodities including palm oil, fishery products, margarine, and processed cocoa.

On the investment side, investment realization in the food and beverage industry reached Rp26.82 trillion in the first half of 2026.

In addition to contributing to exports and investment, the food and beverage industry is also a major source of employment. The sector employs around 6.94 million workers.

Faisol added that strengthening food standards was also important in addressing global competition. The Ministry of Industry continues to strengthen the implementation of mandatory Indonesian National Standards (SNI) to ensure health, safety, security, and environmental sustainability while enhancing the competitiveness of domestic products.

Mandatory SNI requirements currently cover products including wheat flour, bottled drinking water, palm cooking oil, instant coffee, primary packaging, paperboard, cocoa powder, cornstarch, non-dairy creamer, and refined crystal sugar.
