KAI Logistik, Bogantara Partner to Transport Commodities by Rail

JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com—PT Kereta Api Logistik (KAI Logistik) has partnered with PT Bogantara Indo Transport to transport agricultural commodities, food products, livestock and related goods by rail.

KAI Logistik President Director Yuskal Setiawan said the partnership is not merely about distribution and logistics, but also about creating new logistics solutions through synergy that can deliver broader benefits to the public.

“We see food commodities as a strategic part of people’s lives, requiring a distribution system that is safe, reliable, scheduled, and capable of connecting production centers with consumption centers more effectively. Transportation also plays an important role in maintaining the continuity of food supplies,” he said in Jakarta recently.

Under the partnership, the parties have agreed to develop rail transportation services for agricultural products such as vegetables and fruits, food commodities, as well as livestock products, including live cattle, on a round-trip Banyuwangi–Jakarta route.

The partnership is planned to run from November 2026 through December 2030, with the transportation volume targeted at 84,200 flatcars during the cooperation period, he said.

Meanwhile, KAI Logistik Director of Business Development Aniek Dwi Deviyanti said the development of the service represents an innovative step as it introduces a transportation scheme for agricultural commodities, food products and related goods with specific characteristics, including live livestock, by rail.

“For KAI Logistik, this is a new service and the first of its kind developed to meet the transportation needs of these commodities by rail,” she said.

The transportation service will use specialized containers tailored to the characteristics and types of commodities being carried, she said. According to Aniek, the containers will comply with technical, safety and operational standards, as well as testing, certification and applicable regulatory requirements based on their intended use.

Therefore, she added, the service innovation will not only focus on transportation capacity but also ensure safety and operational suitability throughout the delivery process, including animal welfare.

Meanwhile, PT Bogantara Indo Transport President Director M. Farid Nor Rohman said the company welcomed the partnership as a breakthrough in developing the distribution of agricultural commodities, food products, livestock and related goods.

He said the collaboration is important to ensure that products from production areas can be connected with markets more effectively and sustainably.

“We also hope that the transportation of livestock and agricultural products can be expanded to cover wider areas, including Sumatra, Kalimantan and other regions, to ensure comprehensive distribution,” he said.

The signing of the cooperation agreement also marks the beginning of the service implementation phase, which will be prepared by the parties in accordance with the agreed scope, operational standards and provisions.

Going forward, he said, the development of the service is expected not only to create new business value but also to generate broader economic and social benefits.

“This will be achieved through stronger connectivity between production centers and consumption centers, improved competitiveness in the distribution of regional commodities, and support for the creation of a national food logistics system that is increasingly reliable, efficient, integrated and sustainable,” he said.
