Jakartaweekly.com — PT Astra Otoparts Tbk has sent around 1,000 travelers home ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holiday through its annual free mudik program, as millions of Indonesians prepare for one of the country’s largest seasonal migrations.

The departure took place on March 17, 2026, from Balai Samudera in North Jakarta, with participants traveling to cities across Central Java and East Java.

The program is supported by Astra Otoparts’ product brands, including GS Astra, KYB, and Akebono, which provide transportation assistance for selected participants.

“Through collaboration with GS Astra, KYB, and Akebono, we aim to deliver broader benefits to the public while strengthening relationships with our business partners and product users,” said Martogi Siahaan, Director of Astra Otoparts.

A total of 22 buses were deployed for the program, serving two main routes: Jakarta–Semarang–Solo–Yogyakarta and Jakarta–Ngawi–Surabaya–Malang. Participants included small business partners such as workshops and spare parts retailers, as well as members of the public who registered through social media.

Mudik, a long-standing tradition in Indonesia, sees millions travel from major cities to their hometowns, often leading to severe congestion on key transport routes.

Programs such as free bus services are increasingly seen as a way to ease pressure on roads while offering safer travel alternatives, particularly for lower-income travelers who might otherwise rely on motorcycles or overcrowded vehicles.

By shifting a portion of travelers to public transport, such initiatives may help reduce traffic density and improve overall safety during the peak holiday period.
