Car Sales Hit 81,115 Units in July 2026, Up 33.3%

TANGERANG, Jakartaweekly.com — Indonesia’s national car sales recorded positive growth in July 2026. Data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (GAIKINDO) showed that wholesale car sales reached 81,115 units in July 2026, up 33.3% from 60,837 units in the same period last year.

Retail sales also recorded growth. Car sales from dealers to consumers reached 77,412 units in July 2026, an increase of 23.1% from 62,889 units in July 2025.

On a monthly basis, car sales also continued to grow. Wholesale sales in July 2026 increased 4.5% from 77,603 units in June 2026, representing an additional 3,512 units in distribution.

Meanwhile, retail sales rose 3.6% month-on-month. Sales reached 77,412 units in July 2026, up by 2,654 units from 74,758 units in June 2026.

With this performance, national car sales for January-July 2026 reached 517,742 units on a wholesale basis. The figure was up 18.3%, or 80,198 units, from 437,544 units recorded in the same period in 2025.

On a retail basis, sales during January-July 2026 reached 511,514 units, up 12.3% from 455,667 units in the same period last year, representing an increase of 55,847 units.

Commenting on the sales data, GAIKINDO Vice Chairman for Market Development Jongkie D. Sugiarto said the domestic automotive market was showing signs of improvement. He attributed the trend partly to improving economic growth.

“People’s purchasing power is beginning to recover,” he said in Tangerang on Saturday evening, August 8, 2026.

Given the positive performance of domestic car sales, Jongkie expressed hope that the trend would continue through the end of the year. He noted that several automotive exhibitions are scheduled to take place through the remainder of 2026.

He also expressed optimism about domestic car sales, both wholesale and retail. Jongkie said GAIKINDO had no plans to revise its sales target for 2026.
