Iduladha Long Weekend: Anticipating Passenger Surge, KAI Adds 9 Long-Distance Train Trips

JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com — PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area 1 Jakarta will operate 9 additional Long-Distance Train (KAJJ) services during the 1447 Hijriah Idul Adha long holiday period to anticipate a surge in passenger mobility.

The additional train services will operate from May 25 to June 2, 2026, covering several popular routes such as Yogyakarta, Solo, Bandung, Cirebon, Cilacap, and Surabaya.

KAI Daop 1 Jakarta Public Relations Manager Franoto Wibowo said the additional trips were introduced to provide the public with more departure schedule options while ensuring seat availability during the long holiday period.

“The Iduladha long weekend is expected to drive increased public mobility. To accommodate this demand, KAI Daop 1 Jakarta is operating additional train services on several favorite routes so that people have more travel alternatives that are safe, comfortable, and punctual,” Franoto said in a statement on Friday, May 22, 2026.

During the long holiday transportation period, KAI Daop 1 Jakarta will operate 68 regular train services daily. In addition, there will be eight extra train services departing from Gambir Station and one additional service from Pasar Senen Station.

With the added services, he said the total seating capacity provided will reach 357,320 seats.

As of now, a total of 156,753 passengers have booked departure tickets from the Daop 1 Jakarta area. The current occupancy rate has reached 43 percent and is expected to continue rising as the holiday period approaches.

KAI also predicts that the peak departure flow will occur on Monday, May 26, 2026, with 34,703 passengers. Meanwhile, the highest return flow is expected on Sunday, June 1, 2026, with 33,930 passengers arriving in the Daop 1 Jakarta area.

The additional train services operated during the period include the Argo Anjasmoro Additional Train on the Gambir–Surabaya Pasarturi route, the Purwojaya Additional Train on the Gambir–Cilacap route, the Cheribon Fakultatif Train on the Gambir–Cirebon route, the Parahyangan Train on the Gambir–Bandung route, the Batavia Train on the Gambir–Solo Balapan route, additional train services on the Gambir–Yogyakarta route, as well as an additional service on the Pasar Senen–Lempuyangan route.

KAI recorded several favorite destination cities among passengers during the Idul Adha long holiday, including Yogyakarta, Semarang, Surabaya, Purwokerto, Bandung, and Jember.

According to Franoto, the high public interest in train travel reflects growing public trust in rail-based transportation.

“Trains remain the public’s preferred choice because they offer safety, punctuality, comfort, and easy intercity access. KAI remains committed to providing reliable public transportation services during the long holiday period,” he said.

To support smooth operations during the period, KAI Daop 1 Jakarta has ensured the readiness of its facilities and infrastructure, improved station services, and strengthened safety and security aspects of train travel during the long holiday transportation period.
