Jakarta Anniversary: Road Closures, Traffic Diversions and Rp1 Public Transport

JAKARTA — The Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub DKI Jakarta) will implement temporary traffic diversions around the Bundaran Hotel Indonesia (HI) area on Saturday, June 27, as the city celebrates the grand finale of its 499th Jakarta anniversary.

Traffic management will be enforced gradually and based on conditions between 2:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. to accommodate thousands of visitors expected to attend the celebration.

Roads affected by the traffic scheme include sections of Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Jalan M.H. Thamrin, Jalan M. Mashabi, Jalan Sutan Syahrir, Jalan Imam Bonjol, Jalan Kotabumi, Jalan Teluk Betung, and Jalan Sumenep.

Jakarta Transportation Agency Head Budi Awaluddin urged motorists to plan their trips in advance, avoid the affected areas whenever possible, and follow directions from traffic officers on site.

“We encourage residents to adjust their travel schedules and, if possible, use public transportation. These arrangements are intended to ensure the celebration runs safely while minimizing disruption to mobility around Bundaran HI,” he said on Thursday.

Eight Alternative Routes

To ease congestion, the city has prepared eight recommended alternative routes connecting key areas including Harmoni, Semanggi, Tugu Tani, Tanah Abang, Menteng, and Gambir.

Drivers traveling between western, central, and southern Jakarta are advised to use roads such as Jalan K.H. Mas Mansyur, Jalan Prof. Dr. Satrio, Jalan Abdul Muis, Jalan Kebon Sirih, Jalan Cideng Timur, and Jalan Suryopranoto to bypass the event area.

Parking and Public Transport

The city has also designated 21 official parking locations, providing space for:

  • 8,186 motorcycles
  • 12,295 cars
  • 97 buses

Officials reminded visitors that parking along roadsides is strictly prohibited.

Several TransJakarta routes passing through Central Jakarta will operate on temporary detours throughout the event.

Among the changes:

  • Route 1 (Blok M–Kota) will be diverted via Corridors 13 and 9.
  • Route 6B (Ragunan–Balai Kota) will terminate at Semanggi.
  • Route 9D (Pasar Minggu–Tanah Abang) will operate via Slipi.
  • Route 1B (Palmerah Station–Dukuh Atas Transport Hub) will terminate at Gerbang Pemuda.
  • Routes 6A, 1N, and 1P will be suspended during the celebration.

Rp1 Public Transport During the Celebration

To encourage residents to leave their cars at home, the Jakarta Provincial Government will offer Rp1 fares on TransJakarta, MRT Jakarta, and LRT Jakarta on June 27–28.

Meanwhile, Mikrotrans, TransJakarta Cares, and other fare-free services for eligible passenger groups will remain free of charge.

Public transport operating hours have also been extended:

  • MRT Jakarta: Bundaran HI and Dukuh Atas stations open until midnight.
  • KRL Commuter Line: Sudirman and BNI City stations operate until midnight.
  • LRT Jabodebek: Dukuh Atas Station operates until 11:30 p.m.

The city expects the combination of expanded public transport access, discounted fares, and temporary traffic management to help ensure smooth mobility as Jakarta celebrates its final anniversary before reaching its historic 500th year in 2027.
