Jakarta Film Week 2026 to Take Place on October 21–25, Here Are the Programs

JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com — Jakarta Film Week 2026 will take place from October 21 to 25, 2026, at several screening venues and creative spaces across Jakarta. Entering its sixth edition, this year’s festival carries the theme ENCOUNTERS, bringing together filmmakers, films, audiences, and film industry professionals from Indonesia and abroad.

Jakarta Film Week 2026 Festival Director Rina Damayanti said this year’s festival is part of Jakarta Film Week’s ongoing effort to bring together people behind films, discover new talent, and strengthen Indonesia’s film ecosystem.

“Six years of Jakarta Film Week have taught us that the festival is not only about screening films, but also about bringing together the people behind them, discovering new talent, and strengthening the film ecosystem in Indonesia. ENCOUNTERS is a manifestation of that meeting point,” Rina said.

Jakarta Film Week 2026 will be held at CGV Grand Indonesia, Galeri Indonesia Kaya, Mercure Jakarta Cikini, Paviliun Raden Saleh ARTOTEL, Taman Ismail Marzuki, CGV FX Sudirman, and FX Sudirman.

The festival’s film program features a selection of Indonesian and international films, including titles making their Indonesian premieres.

As the Opening Film, Jakarta Film Week 2026 will screen Ah Girl (2026), directed by Singaporean filmmaker Ang Geck Geck. Meanwhile, The Sea Speaks His Name (2026), directed by Yosep Anggi Noen, will serve as the Closing Film and make its Indonesian premiere.

The Global Feature Competition lineup includes La Grazia (2025) by Paolo Sorrentino, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma (2026) by Jane Schoenbrun, Rose (2026) by Markus Schleinzer, Burn (2026) by Makoto Nagahisa, Filipiñana (2026) by Rafael Manuel, and Chronicles from the Siege (2026) by Abdallah Al-Khatib.

Meanwhile, the Currents program features Couture (2025) by Alice Winocour and Rosebush Pruning (2026) by Karim Aïnouz.

For Indonesian films, the Direction Award program will premiere Togel (2026), directed by Yogi S. Calam, and Harga Teman (2026), directed by Andrew Kose.

The Global Feature Official Selection includes Four Seasons in Java (2026) by Kamila Andini. The film is an international co-production involving Indonesia, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore.

The Indonesia-France collaboration will also continue through Next Step Studio, featuring Holy Crowd (2026), Original Wound (2026), Annisa (2026), and Mothers Are Mothering (2026).

“This year’s film program is curated to explore diversity, from films anticipated by audiences to Indonesian premieres that address issues relevant to our lives today,” said Jakarta Film Week 2026 Program Manager Novi Hanabi.

Novi said this year’s festival will also mark the first time Jakarta Film Week presents eight short films set in Jakarta through the Jakarta Film Fund. Three of the eight films are part of the Jakarta Film Fund for Student, a collaboration with the J-Youth Film Festival 2026.

Beyond its film screenings, Jakarta Film Week 2026 features a number of programs aimed at audiences with different interests. Emergency Broadcast and Herstory invite audiences to discuss current issues through the lens of cinema.

The Fantasea program presents the latest film trends from around the world, while Family Time offers family-friendly films with an interactive and immersive experience.

Jakarta Film Week 2026 has also appointed actor Ali Fikry as its Festival Ambassador. His involvement is part of the festival’s effort to reach younger audiences.

“Whatever you are looking for in a film festival, whether it is an issue you want to discuss, the latest trends in cinema, or films you can enjoy with your family, you can find it all at Jakarta Film Week. I invite everyone to come and enjoy the festival based on what they are looking for. Especially for those around my age, we can enjoy the film festival together,” Ali said.

JFWNET Brings Industry Programs

Jakarta Film Week 2026 will also feature JFWNET–Industry Program, comprising Producers Lab, Pitching Forum, Talents Hub, Industry Talk, and Festival Meeting.

Jakarta Film Week 2026 Head of Industry Gayatri Nadya said JFWNET provides a space for emerging filmmakers to grow, connect with international partners, and take their projects further.

“JFWNET–Industry Program seeks to open doors for emerging filmmakers, providing a place for them to grow, connect with international partners, and take the next step, as demonstrated by our alumni. Every year, the ecosystem continues to expand and welcome new faces,” Gayatri said.

Producers Lab 2026 brings together 10 selected emerging Indonesian producers from West Sumatra, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, and Kalimantan.

Meanwhile, Talents Hub 2026 features emerging filmmakers recommended by Minikino Film Week, Mollucas Film Festival, CRAFT Animfest, and Layar Indonesiana for local participants. International participants come from CinemaWorld Singapore, QCinema International Film Festival in the Philippines, and Autumn Meeting Vietnam.

The Pitching Forum 2026 focuses on Indonesian projects seeking national and international support and collaboration. The projects represent a range of genres, from horror to animation.

This year, JFWNET is also collaborating with Cerita Anak Nusantara, an idea competition for Indonesian children’s and family entertainment presented by Netflix in partnership with the Indonesian Film Producers Association (APROFI) and the Indonesian Film Board (BPI). Ten film projects from cities across Indonesia will pitch their projects at Jakarta Film Week 2026.

Ahead of the main festival, Jakarta Film Week has already presented a number of activities through JFW360, including a quiz competition at Gramedia Jalma Melawai and Kopikina Kemang, short-film screenings at JITEX, and the release of 24 short films available to watch for free on Vidio from September 20 to October 20, 2026.

Jakarta Film Week 2026 is organized by the Jakarta Provincial Government together with the Jakarta Film Commission, with support from the Ministry of Culture through the Directorate General of Cultural Development, Utilization, and Development.
