JAKARTA, October 9, 2026 — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has inspected the construction of the Kelapa Gading–Pulo Gadung connecting road, a 1.8-kilometre route intended to provide an alternative for motorists travelling between North and East Jakarta.
The road is expected to help reduce traffic congestion, particularly along Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan. During his inspection on Friday, Pramono called on the Jakarta Bina Marga Agency to prioritise unfinished infrastructure projects that offer significant benefits to residents.
“Projects that remain unfinished but provide substantial benefits to the city’s development, particularly transportation, must be prioritised for completion. This includes this road and the road in Pasar Minggu, as they are needed by the public,” Pramono said.
The Kelapa Gading–Pulo Gadung road project was first planned in 2006, with construction beginning in 2009.
The route is designed to connect an entry point from Bekasi into Jakarta with the area around Gading Pluit Hospital and Pulo Gadung Bus Terminal. Once fully completed, it is expected to provide an additional route for motorists and improve movement between neighbouring districts.
Pramono has set a target of completing construction in 2027 and instructed the relevant agencies to ensure the work proceeds according to plan.
The project forms part of the Jakarta administration’s efforts to improve urban mobility by completing infrastructure developments that have remained unfinished despite their potential benefits to the public.
Alongside the connecting road, the Jakarta provincial government is preparing infrastructure improvements in the Kelapa Gading area.
The work includes addressing social and public facilities that have been handed over to the local government, as well as repairing damaged or uneven road surfaces. These repairs will cover several sections, including areas around the Kelapa Gading Roundabout.
Pramono said the improvements were intended to enhance the city’s infrastructure and help reduce congestion.
“Through these improvements, hopefully Jakarta will become a better city and traffic congestion will also decrease significantly,” he said.
Jakarta Bina Marga Agency Head Heru Suwondo said parts of the Kelapa Gading–Pulo Gadung connecting road were already being used on a limited basis.
Completed sections have been opened to support vehicle movements, particularly traffic travelling from the west towards the north, with two-way traffic arrangements in place.
“Functionally, the road is already serving its purpose. However, for it to operate at 100 per cent in accordance with the original plan, the target is next year,” Heru said.
Full operation is therefore targeted for 2027, when the remaining construction work is expected to be completed.
