JAKARTA, Indonesia (JakartaWeekly.com) – Indonesian insurance technology player PT Bolttech Insurance Broker has been named “Indonesia Innovator of the Year” at the Asian Management Excellence Awards 2026, marking a significant milestone in the country’s push toward sustainable transport.

The Jakarta-based broker, a subsidiary of the global Bolttech group, secured the award in the insurance broker category for its bespoke electric vehicle (EV) insurance program. The initiative was developed specifically to address the unique risk profile of EV ownership, a sector where traditional motor insurance has often fallen short.

As Indonesia ramps up its national targets for green mobility, the insurance industry is under pressure to evolve. Conventional policies typically do not account for the high cost of EV components or the specific technical failures associated with battery-powered engines.

“This award reflects our response to the emerging risks arising from the increased use of electric cars in Indonesia,” the company said in a statement.

Bridging the Protection Gap

The core of the award-winning program is its focus on “EV-specific” benefits. While standard car insurance covers accidents and theft, Bolttech’s solution covers critical hardware that owners previously found difficult to insure.

Key benefits of the program include:

  • Critical Hardware Coverage: Dedicated protection for the EV battery, electric motor, and controller—the most expensive components of the vehicle.
  • Charging Infrastructure: Coverage for home charging devices, protecting owners against electrical malfunctions or damage to their personal charging ports.
  • Emergency Roadside Support: Specialised “out-of-charge” towing services for drivers stranded due to depleted batteries, alongside standard emergency roadside assistance.
  • Operational Incentives: Taxi reimbursement for owners while their vehicles are undergoing repairs, and specialized protection for wheels and tyres.

The product is currently being offered across all BYD showrooms operated by Harmony Auto Indonesia, allowing customers to bundle comprehensive or total-loss-only (TLO) insurance at the point of purchase.

Industry Integration

The success of the program lies in its seamless integration into the automotive retail workflow. By embedding the insurance process into the dealership operations, Bolttech has simplified the path to protection for new EV buyers, who often face uncertainty regarding the long-term maintenance costs of lithium-ion technology.

Suwandy, Country Head of BYD & Denza Harmony Auto, noted that the integration provides “practical support” for customers, helping to mitigate the hesitation many buyers feel when switching from internal combustion engines to electric.

The Asian Management Excellence Awards, which took place this week, recognizes business leaders and innovators across the region who demonstrate exceptional achievements in program development and corporate initiative.

For Bolttech, the win reinforces its position in Southeast Asia’s competitive insurance technology landscape. The company has been active in expanding its digital credit and insurance footprint across the archipelago, recently securing strategic investments from major global players like Sumitomo Corporation to further its tech-driven insurance solutions.
