JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com — Competition in Indonesia’s automotive industry is set to intensify as Changan prepares to introduce the Deepal S05 Range Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) to the Indonesian market in the near future.

Setiawan Surya, CEO of Changan Indonesia, said the Changan Deepal S05 REEV is ready to open a new chapter in the transformation of the national automotive industry as the first REEV model to be introduced in Indonesia.

“At the same time, it marks Changan’s initial step in expanding access to electrification technology that is more inclusive and easier to adopt,” he said in a press release on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

He explained that Changan believes the transition toward electrification is a journey that must be supported by solutions relevant to current consumer needs. Therefore, the company is presenting the Deepal S05 REEV as a more realistic transitional bridge toward future mobility.

According to him, the technology not only offers innovation, but also provides ease of adaptation, greater peace of mind while driving, and an electrification experience designed to meet the needs of Indonesian consumers.

He added that the presence of this technology addresses two major challenges preventing consumers from switching to fully electric vehicles: limited charging infrastructure and concerns over driving range, commonly known as range anxiety.

Through REEV technology, he continued, Changan offers a more flexible electrification experience without requiring consumers to drastically change their mobility habits.

Technically, the REEV technology embedded in the Deepal S05 adopts a borderless mobility concept that distinguishes it from conventional hybrid systems. Its gasoline engine does not function to drive the wheels, but instead acts as an internal generator that efficiently recharges the battery whenever needed.

As a result, through the integration of an intelligent energy management system, the Deepal S05 REEV is capable of traveling up to 170 kilometers in pure electric mode and delivering a total driving range of more than 1,200 kilometers in combined mode.

He also noted that the Deepal S05 REEV maintains the distinctive driving characteristics of a fully electric vehicle because the wheels are powered entirely by an electric motor. This delivers instant torque, smooth acceleration response, and a quiet as well as comfortable driving experience similar to that of an EV.
