Danantara, VKTR Explore Strategic Investment to Accelerate Commercial EV Ecosystem

JAKARTAWEEKLY. PT Danantara Investment Management (Persero) (DIM), PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk (VKTR), and PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk (BNBR) have signed a non-binding term sheet as an initial framework to explore a strategic investment partnership aimed at accelerating the development of Indonesia’s commercial electric vehicle ecosystem.

VKTR, a subsidiary of BNBR, is among Indonesia’s early players in developing battery-powered electric vehicles for the commercial segment.

The proposed collaboration is aimed at accelerating the adoption of electric commercial vehicles, particularly electric buses and trucks, through the development of a mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) ecosystem. The integrated electric mobility model is designed to lower barriers to EV adoption, expand access to financing and help fleet operators transition to electric vehicles, including electric bus operators across various regions in Indonesia.

The initiative is also expected to strengthen Indonesia’s domestic battery value chain and support the government’s critical mineral downstreaming agenda, which is among DIM’s investment priorities.

Pandu Sjahrir, Chief Investment Officer of Danantara Indonesia, said investment in the electrification of commercial mobility should be viewed as a long-term investment in the country’s energy transition, with the potential to accelerate the broader adoption of electric vehicles.

“In line with the Indonesian government’s priorities, we see this collaboration as part of a broader effort to reduce emissions, strengthen domestic industries, promote downstreaming and lay the foundation for a more sustainable economy,” Pandu said.

He stressed that the non-binding term sheet was only an initial framework and did not yet represent a final investment commitment.

“A comprehensive due diligence process will be carried out to ensure that the transaction delivers sound commercial value while making a positive contribution to Indonesia’s economic development,” Pandu added.

Anindra Ardiansyah Bakrie, president director of VKTR, welcomed the partnership, saying the support represented both a strategic collaboration and a responsibility for the company as it enters its next phase of growth.

“Together, we want to help shape the future of mobility in Indonesia to make it more advanced, sustainable and self-reliant,” Anindra said.

He described the agreement as an important milestone in opening a new chapter for electric mobility solutions in Indonesia, arguing that greater impact could be achieved by bringing together complementary strengths behind a common national objective.

Through the proposed collaboration, DIM and VKTR reaffirmed their commitment to advancing Indonesia’s energy transition, strengthening domestic industrial capacity and developing sustainable mobility solutions in support of the country’s long-term development agenda.

The non-binding term sheet serves as a preliminary framework for further discussions between the parties. Any potential investment will remain subject to the completion of due diligence, negotiations and the execution of definitive agreement
