Hino Launches Safer RM 280 Bus at GIIAS 2026

PT Hino Motors Sales Indonesia (HMSI) introduced its latest passenger bus, the Hino RM 280 ABS Retarder, at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026, reinforcing its strategy to support Indonesia’s transport and logistics sectors through safer vehicles and integrated after-sales services.

The launch forms part of Hino’s exhibition theme, “Hino for Indonesia – Driving the Nation’s Transportation,” reflecting the company’s commitment to providing not only commercial vehicles but also end-to-end business solutions that help customers maximize fleet productivity.

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, HMSI President Director Shingo Sakai said customer expectations have evolved beyond purchasing reliable trucks and buses.

“Customers today need more than dependable vehicles. They need a business partner that can ensure their fleets remain productive, operations run smoothly, and businesses continue to grow,” Sakai said.

He added that Hino continues to strengthen its ecosystem through vehicle innovation, nationwide dealer networks, comprehensive after-sales services, and digital technologies.

The centerpiece of Hino’s display is the RM 280 ABS Retarder, a new premium bus designed to enhance passenger safety and operator efficiency.

Powered by a 280-horsepower Euro 4 J08E-WD diesel engine, the bus is equipped with an electromagnetic retarder, an auxiliary braking system that helps slow the vehicle without placing excessive strain on the primary braking system. The technology is particularly useful when descending steep roads, reducing brake wear while improving safety for drivers and passengers.

The new model also features Air Suspension, delivering a smoother ride by minimizing road vibrations, making it suitable for intercity and tourism services.

Meanwhile, its Space Frame chassis allows for a wider underfloor luggage compartment with a pass-through design, enabling operators to transport more baggage and cargo while creating additional revenue opportunities.

Beyond the new bus, Hino is displaying four commercial vehicle solutions tailored to different industries.

The Hino 300 Series 136 HDX serves as a versatile light-duty truck for construction materials, refrigerated logistics, and general cargo transportation. Powered by a 136-horsepower Euro 4 common-rail diesel engine, the model combines fuel efficiency with flexible body applications.

For heavy logistics operations, Hino showcased the 500 Series FLX 280 JW, featuring a 280-horsepower 7.7-liter Euro 4 engine paired with a nine-speed transmission. Designed for long-haul freight, the truck prioritizes payload capacity, durability, and fuel efficiency.

Hino also presented the 500 Series FM 280 JD configured as a fire truck, demonstrating the versatility of its chassis platform for specialized applications including emergency response and public services.

At GIIAS 2026, Hino emphasized that its competitive advantage extends beyond vehicle sales through its Total Support philosophy, which integrates after-sales services, digital fleet management, and customer training.

Visitors can explore the Total Support Corner, which highlights Hino’s nationwide dealer network, spare parts availability, and maintenance services designed to maximize vehicle uptime.

The Digital Corner showcases solutions such as Hino Connect and MyHino, allowing fleet operators to monitor vehicle performance, manage maintenance schedules, and improve operational efficiency through connected technologies.

Meanwhile, the Training Corner introduces programs from the Hino Indonesia Academy, offering professional development for drivers, mechanics, and fleet personnel to improve road safety, vehicle maintenance, and operational productivity.

According to Sakai, Hino aims to demonstrate that long-term business success depends on more than delivering quality products.
