Home Credit and Indosat Explore AI-Driven Financing in Indonesia

JAKARTA— Jakartaweekly.com. Home Credit Indonesia and Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison are exploring a potential partnership to bring AI-driven embedded financing services into Indonesia’s digital ecosystem, as the two companies look to make access to financing more convenient and relevant for consumers.

The companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on September 9 to explore a strategic collaboration that would integrate potential financing services into Indosat’s digital ecosystem.

The proposed cooperation combines Home Credit’s experience in consumer financing with Indosat’s extensive digital and connectivity ecosystem. Home Credit has been serving Indonesian consumers for more than a decade, while Indosat provides telecommunications and digital services to more than 100 million subscribers nationwide.

Rather than positioning financing as a separate service, the companies are exploring how it could become part of the digital experiences consumers already use in their daily lives.

For Home Credit, the initiative builds on its approach of reaching consumers through channels that are already familiar to them, including partnerships with businesses and digital platforms.

Manu Pal, Chief Product Officer at Home Credit Indonesia, said the potential partnership reflects the company’s focus on making financing more accessible through everyday digital channels.

“This potential partnership reflects Home Credit’s commitment to meeting Indonesians where they already are — in their daily digital lives, not just at the point of a financing application,” Manu said.

He added that Indosat’s scale and its work in AI-driven personalization could support the development of a more relevant approach to accessible financing.

Bringing Financing Into the Digital Experience

The MoU comes as Indosat continues to expand the use of artificial intelligence across its business, including network operations and customer experiences.

Through the proposed collaboration, the companies intend to explore how similar AI capabilities could be applied to financial services.

The objective is to develop financing experiences that can be integrated into digital services rather than requiring consumers to seek financing separately.

Apoorva Mehrotra, Director and Chief Growth Officer of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, said the combination of Indosat’s customer reach and digital ecosystem with Home Credit’s financing capabilities could create opportunities to make financing more accessible.

“By combining Indosat’s customer reach and digital ecosystem with Home Credit’s financing capabilities, we see an opportunity to make financing more accessible, relevant and convenient as part of everyday digital experiences,” Apoorva said.

The companies said the cooperation is intended to explore the use of data and AI-driven personalization to develop financing solutions that are more relevant to individual customer needs.

Addressing Access to Formal Financing

The proposed partnership also comes against a backdrop of limited access to formal borrowing among Indonesian consumers.

According to The Global Findex Database 2025, cited by the companies, only 15% of Indonesian adults have borrowed from formal financial institutions.

Home Credit currently serves more than 6.9 million customers through over 24,000 distribution points across Indonesia. Combined with Indosat’s more than 100 million subscribers, the companies see potential to reach consumers at significant scale.

For Home Credit, the partnership would extend its consumer financing model into another channel, while Indosat could potentially add financing-related services to its broader digital ecosystem.

The companies have emphasized that the initiative remains at the exploration stage under the MoU. Specific products and services have not yet been announced.

Further details on any financing offerings resulting from the collaboration are expected to be announced closer to launch.

For now, the agreement marks the beginning of a potential partnership between a consumer financing company and one of Indonesia’s largest telecommunications providers, with AI, digital personalization, and embedded financial services at the centre of the proposed cooperation.
