KAI Divre III Palembang Prepares 21,696 Seats for Ascension Day Long Holiday

PALEMBANG, Jakartaweekly.com – PT KAI Regional Division III Palembang has prepared 21,696 seats to accommodate passenger demand during the Ascension Day long holiday period from May 13 to May 18, 2026.

The seating capacity is allocated for three train services operating across the Divre III Palembang network, serving destinations throughout southern Sumatra, including Prabumulih, Muara Enim, Lahat, Lubuk Linggau, and Tanjungkarang in Lampung Province.

KAI Divre III Palembang Public Relations Manager Aida Suryanti said the company had prepared tens of thousands of seats to meet rising public demand, as interest in rail-based transportation remains strong.

“We are committed to providing safe, comfortable, secure, and punctual travel services for all passengers,” Aida said in a statement on Monday, May 11, 2026.

As of the release of the statement, ticket sales had reached 103 percent of total capacity, with 22,396 tickets already booked by customers. The strong sales performance was supported by KAI’s policy allowing ticket bookings up to 45 days before departure.

Aida noted that the surge in passenger demand during the long holiday period was driven through various official booking channels, including the Access by KAI application, KAI’s official website, and other authorized partner platforms.

For the Rajabasa train operating on the Kertapati–Tanjungkarang route, ticket sales for departures from Kertapati reached 130 percent of seating capacity, equivalent to around 6,635 tickets sold. Meanwhile, ticket sales for the return trip from Tanjungkarang to Kertapati reached 124 percent, or approximately 6,313 tickets.

On the Bukit Serelo service connecting Kertapati and Lubuk Linggau, ticket sales reached 120 percent of seating capacity, totaling around 3,808 tickets. The reverse route from Lubuk Linggau to Kertapati recorded sales of 119 percent, or approximately 3,791 tickets.

Meanwhile, the Sindang Marga train serving the Kertapati–Lubuk Linggau route posted ticket sales of 40 percent, or around 1,024 tickets. For the opposite direction from Lubuk Linggau to Kertapati, ticket sales reached 33 percent, equivalent to approximately 855 tickets.

To anticipate stronger passenger demand during the holiday period, KAI Divre III Palembang added one executive-class carriage to the Sindang Marga trainset, providing an additional 50 seats. With the expansion, the Sindang Marga service now operates with five executive-class carriages, up from four previously.

“KAI Divre III Palembang continues to implement anticipatory measures to ensure public transportation needs are optimally fulfilled during the long holiday period,” she added.

The company also encouraged passengers to consider partial-route ticket purchases if tickets for their final destination are no longer available.

“Partial tickets allow customers to book based on a certain travel distance or segment rather than the full route, providing greater flexibility while still enabling passengers to reach their intended destination. This option is particularly helpful during periods of high demand such as the current long holiday,” Aida explained.

Passengers are also advised to regularly monitor ticket availability and promotional offers provided by PT KAI through the Access by KAI application and other official channels.
