JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com – Kia said growing global demand for sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and electric vehicles (EVs) is increasingly reflected in the Indonesian market, as consumer expectations rise for technology, design and exclusive experiences that are relevant to everyday life.

Head of Marketing at Kia Sales Indonesia, Rendy Pratama, said consumers are no longer focused solely on vehicle specifications, but also on how a product can address mobility needs more holistically.

“The developments we are seeing globally reflect increasingly dynamic consumer expectations, including in Indonesia. Kia is consistently shaping a direction that focuses not only on products, but also on how technology, design and exclusive experiences can be meaningfully integrated into everyday life,” he said in a statement on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.

According to Rendy, global trends show SUVs remain the preferred choice across markets, while the adoption of electric vehicles is becoming more commercially relevant, supported by improving product readiness and market acceptance.

He added that going forward, Kia aims to ensure Indonesian consumers can access the same standards and innovations offered in global markets, in line with the industry’s transition toward electrification and broader technology integration.

Kia Global Performance

Meanwhile, Kia Corporation recorded global sales of 779.169 units in the first quarter of 2026, marking its highest-ever first-quarter performance, with a year-on-year increase of 0,8%.

The achievement came amid increasingly complex dynamics in the global automotive industry, where growth is driven not only by volume expansion but also by manufacturers’ ability to maintain product relevance across segments and markets.

In March 2026, Kia’s sales reached 285.854 units, up 2,7% year-on-year and 15,4% higher than in February. The performance was primarily supported by its SUV lineup, which remained the main contributor globally.

In overseas markets, sales outside Korea totaled 228.978 units in March, while domestic sales in Korea stood at 56.404 units, up 12,8% year-on-year. In Europe, Kia also set a new monthly sales record of 58.750 units.

SUV models continued to underpin sales, with the Sportage recording 48.885 units in March, followed by the Seltos at 31.761 units and the Sorento at 21.285 units. In Korea, the Sorento led passenger vehicle sales with 10.870 units, followed by the Sportage and Carnival.

On the other hand, the electric vehicle segment is starting to make a more significant contribution. In Korea, EV sales reached 16.187 units in March, led by models such as the EV3, EV5 and PV5, signaling increasingly mature commercial adoption of electrification.

Globally, Kia is also continuing to strengthen its electric vehicle portfolio, including models such as the EV6 and EV9, designed to meet a wide range of consumer needs. Electrification is now an integral part of the company’s product development strategy, rather than a standalone segment.
