JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com — Changan, a China-based automotive brand under the Indomobil Group, says the electric vehicle (EV) trend in Indonesia continues to show positive growth, driven by increasing consumer attention to vehicle ownership cost efficiency.

Changan Indonesia CEO Setiawan Surya said consumers are no longer only considering the initial purchase price when deciding to buy a vehicle, but also the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) in daily usage.

“Many consumers are now considering the overall cost of vehicle usage, not just the purchase price,” he said in Jakarta recently.

Given this condition, he said the company aims to provide an overview of the efficiency of using electric vehicles for daily mobility.

He said electric vehicles offer lower operational costs compared to internal combustion engine vehicles, especially amid fluctuating fuel prices.

Non-subsidized PLN household electricity rates of around Rp1,700 per kWh and public charging stations (SPKLU) at around Rp2,475 per kWh are used as references for energy cost calculations.

Based on internal company claims, the Changan Lumin, equipped with a 28.08 kWh battery and a range of up to 301 km (NEDC), has an energy consumption of 9.3 kWh per 100 km or equivalent to 10.75 km/kWh.

At non-subsidized household electricity rates, energy costs are estimated at around Rp158 per kilometer, while charging at SPKLU is around Rp230 per kilometer.

A full charge at home is estimated at around Rp48,000, while fast charging at SPKLU costs around Rp70,000.

For the Deepal S07 model, the vehicle features a 79.97 kWh battery with a range of up to 560 km (NEDC) and energy consumption of 14.2 kWh per 100 km or equivalent to 7.04 km/kWh.

He said energy costs are estimated at around Rp241 per kilometer for home charging and around Rp351 per kilometer at SPKLU. A full charge is estimated at around Rp136,000 at home and around Rp200,000 at SPKLU.

He also highlighted the efficiency of electric vehicles in dense urban traffic conditions. Electric motors remain efficient in stop-and-go traffic conditions, supported by regenerative braking features in both the Changan Lumin and Deepal S07 to optimize energy use.

In addition to energy efficiency, he said Changan electric vehicles are also equipped with fast-charging capability, allowing charging from 30 percent to 80 percent in about 35 minutes.

He added that electric vehicles also provide additional benefits in Jakarta, including exemption from odd-even traffic restrictions, which is seen as improving daily mobility flexibility for urban residents.
