JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com—Jakarta’s Meeting, Incentive, Convention, and Exhibition (MICE) industry continues to grow. As the market expands, demand is rising for event venues that can support different types of activities.

Companies, business communities and event promoters are no longer looking only for a place to hold an event. They also consider location, capacity, design, facilities and how easily the venue can support the entire event program.

Event venue options in Jakarta have also become more diverse. Choices range from hotel ballrooms to convention centers and multipurpose event spaces.

However, having more options does not always make the decision easier. Each venue comes with different capacities, facilities and layouts that may affect how an event is organized.

Hellen Triutomo, Hospitality & Lifestyle Business Unit Director, said many venues still lack connectivity between different spaces. She noted that event areas are often separated into rooms with different sizes and designs.

“I think there are still many places that provide interconnectivity from one room to another. Most spaces we see today have different room sizes and are also very limited in design,” Hellen said at Sudirman Hall in Jakarta on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

According to Hellen, connected spaces can become an important consideration for event organizers. This is especially relevant for events that require several functions within the same venue.

A single event may need a main conference room, meeting areas, coffee break space and rooms for supporting activities. Having these areas connected can make the movement of attendees easier.

It can also help organizers create a smoother event flow. Participants do not need to move between separate venues simply to attend different parts of the same program.

Hellen also pointed to a changing trend in the MICE industry. She said organizers are increasingly considering medium-scale events rather than focusing only on large gatherings.

“Many people now tend to avoid large-scale events. They are more interested in medium-scale events,” Hellen said.

The trend could create opportunities for venues that focus on medium-sized gatherings. According to Hellen, there are still relatively few venues offering this type of multipurpose space.

“We see that if we cater as a hall, a multipurpose hall, with a medium scale, we should be quite competitive. There are not too many that offer it,” she added.

This situation highlights the growing importance of flexibility in event venues. Spaces need to adapt to different formats while allowing organizers to manage several activities within one location.

Sudirman Hall is positioning its venue around this approach. Located at Sequis Tower in the SCBD area, the venue promotes an interconnectivity concept that links different spaces for various event needs.

Coffee breaks, conferences, seminars, meetings and celebrations can be arranged within connected areas. This allows organizers to create different event zones without requiring attendees to leave the venue.

Its location in SCBD also provides an advantage for business and MICE activities in Jakarta. The area offers access to a major business district while supporting events with different formats and scales.

For event organizers, choosing the right venue is therefore more than a question of room capacity. Location, flexibility, design, connectivity and facilities can all influence how smoothly an event operates.

As medium-scale events become more common, multipurpose venues may have a stronger role in Jakarta’s growing MICE industry. The ability to connect spaces and support different activities could become an increasingly important factor in venue selection.
