TANGERANG, Jakartaweekly.com—Astemo is strengthening its aftermarket business in Indonesia by bringing more products and technologies for two-wheelers to the market, with the latest addition being the Showa EVO/PD suspension system.

Astemo Asia Aftermarket Business Unit Head Rakesh Gandhi said Indonesia is one of the key markets for the company’s aftermarket business in Asia.

According to Rakesh, the country’s large population is one of the main reasons Astemo continues to strengthen its presence in Indonesia.

“We see Indonesia as a market with more than 120 million motorcycles, and the number continues to grow very rapidly. From a market perspective, Indonesia is one of the most important motorcycle markets in the world,” Rakesh said in Tangerang on Friday, September 25, 2026.

He said Asia as a whole has nearly 600 million motorcycles. With more than 120 million units, Indonesia is one of the largest motorcycle markets in the region.

Beyond the size of the market, Rakesh said the characteristics of Indonesian consumers are also an important factor. According to him, the country’s young and aspirational population is driving demand for products that offer enhanced performance and quality.

“This young and aspirational population wants to upgrade and gain access to the best solutions available in the world. That is why Indonesia is important,” he said.

Strengthening Local Investment

Rakesh said Astemo has a long-term commitment to Indonesia. The company has maintained manufacturing operations and partnerships in the country for several decades.

Its presence is rooted in several companies that are now part of Astemo, including Keihin, Showa, Nissin, and Hitachi.

“We have a former Keihin plant here, a former Showa plant, a former Nissin plant, and even a former Hitachi plant. So, we have a very strong presence in the region,” he said.

Astemo integrates the businesses and technologies of several automotive companies, including Hitachi Automotive Systems, Keihin, Showa, and Nissin. Showa itself has a long manufacturing history in Indonesia, dating back to the establishment of PT Showa Indonesia Manufacturing in 1978.

Rakesh emphasized that the company’s strategy in Asia is centered on local partnerships, local investment, and local support. He said Astemo operates manufacturing facilities at 44 locations and has 13 joint ventures across the region.

Bringing OE Technology to the Aftermarket

According to Rakesh, Indonesian consumers have already been using Hitachi Astemo technologies through original equipment (OE) components installed on their motorcycles.

He said around seven out of every 10 motorcycles in Indonesia already use the same technology through their OE components. Astemo is therefore seeking to offer consumers more options to upgrade their motorcycle performance through aftermarket products.

“Recently, we have also been investing in the aftermarket market with several leading brands in Indonesia,” Rakesh said.

The products being introduced include Keihin carburetors, injectors, fluid indicators, and Nissin Samurai braking system products.

Rakesh said these products are aimed at consumers seeking an upgrade over the standard components installed on their motorcycles.

“We want to connect with the young and aspirational generation who want something more exciting, more powerful, and more performance-oriented,” he said.

In addition to Nissin Samurai and Keihin products, Astemo also highlighted Topico Alpha Plus as part of its aftermarket product portfolio that it intends to further develop in Indonesia.

Showa as a Key Aftermarket Suspension Brand

During the event, Rakesh also highlighted Showa as one of the key technologies Astemo is bringing to Indonesia’s aftermarket market.

He said Showa has a strong position as a suspension system manufacturer and extensive experience in developing technologies for high-performance vehicles and motorsports.

“Showa is one of the leading manufacturers globally. We are the number one OE supplier, with a very strong position in popular suspension systems, and this technology is also well known in the racing world,” Rakesh said.

Through Showa products, Astemo aims to bring suspension technology that has traditionally been widely used as OE equipment to aftermarket consumers.

Rakesh said the products are expected to provide riders with greater consistency, confidence, and control under various road conditions.

“When all these factors are combined, I think it is important for everyday motorcycle riders and commuters to have something that allows them to experience the technology in their daily lives, under various conditions, including challenging conditions and different road surfaces,” he said.

He added that the introduction of Showa products to Indonesia’s aftermarket market is part of Astemo’s continued investment in the country.

“We want to reaffirm our commitment that this is another investment on the aftermarket side, and we will continue to invest in Indonesia,” Rakesh said.
