JAKARTA, JakartaWeekly.com—PT Nine Koeln Indonesia, one of the organizers of the Indonesia Dental Exhibition & Conference (IDEC) 2027, believes Indonesia’s dental market remains attractive despite the current economic conditions.
Jimmy Josua Aritonang, General Manager of PT Nine Koeln Indonesia, said the organizers remain optimistic about the market, given the growth across several segments of the dental industry.
“This industry has a market, supported by Indonesia’s large population and its broad geographical reach. That presents an opportunity,” he said in Jakarta.
According to market projections presented in the presentation materials, the oral care products segment was estimated to be worth US$1.13 billion in 2024, with a projected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.3%. The segment’s market value is projected to reach US$1.8 billion by 2029.
Meanwhile, the dental equipment segment was estimated to be worth US$450 million, with a projected CAGR of 6.5%. The dental services segment was valued at an estimated US$215.4 million in 2024, with a projected CAGR of 6.08%.
Jimmy outlined three factors driving Indonesia’s dental market. The first is government initiatives, including the National Health Insurance (Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional/JKN) program administered by BPJS Kesehatan, which continues to expand its coverage across the population.
The second factor is the growth of aesthetic dental treatments, particularly among Indonesia’s middle class. The third is rising public awareness of dental health.
He said these three factors were helping create opportunities for Indonesia’s dental industry.
Beyond the domestic market, Jimmy highlighted the development of dental tourism, particularly in Bali. He identified Australia as the main source market for patients traveling to Bali for dental treatment.
Jimmy said dental treatment in Indonesia can cost more than 70% less than in Australia. In addition to lower costs, the opportunity to combine dental treatment with a one- to two-week holiday in Bali is another reason Australian patients travel to Indonesia.
He hopes dental tourism will expand beyond Bali to Greater Jakarta and other regions. Such growth could increase demand for dental equipment, services, and professionals.
Jimmy also said the organizers are targeting 7,000 visitors for IDEC 2027, up from 5,620 visitors at the 2025 edition.
In 2025, the exhibition attracted participants from 37 countries. The conference program also featured 14 main lecture sessions and six hands-on sessions.
Jimmy said the organizers would develop several strategies to achieve the visitor target for 2027, including more targeted promotional efforts through government channels and digital platforms.
He emphasized that the organizers would not compromise the quality of the exhibition, conference, workshops, or hands-on sessions at IDEC 2027. Promotional and publicity efforts, along with the event program, would also continue to be strengthened.
According to Jimmy, these efforts are intended to ensure that IDEC 2027 maintains the same standard of delivery and visitor experience as the 2025 edition, despite facing greater challenges.
The organizers are also encouraging exhibitors to expand their booth space. Exhibitors currently occupying 36 square meters, for example, may consider increasing their space to 54 or 72 square meters.
