Soekarno-Hatta Airport Closure Extended Until 9:30 a.m. Due to Volcanic Ash

JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com—The temporary closure of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has been extended until 9:30 a.m. local time on Sunday (September 6, 2026) following indications of volcanic ash in the area that have disrupted flight operations.

The airport was previously placed under an Aerodrome Closed status from 1:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. The latest development has extended the closure period and could affect flight schedules throughout the morning.

PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (Persero), also known as InJourney Airports, has urged prospective passengers to check the latest flight information provided by their respective airlines.

The operational disruption came after a paper test detected indications of volcanic ash at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. The NOTAM issued for the airport stated that the closure was due to Krakatau volcanic ash.

The disruption had earlier affected 33 flights at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. On international routes, 16 flights were canceled, seven were delayed, and five were rescheduled.

On domestic routes, four flights were canceled, while one flight was diverted to another airport.

InJourney Airports has also activated its Service Recovery Activation (SRA) procedures to assist affected passengers. The measures include providing food and refreshments, arranging buses to transport passengers to hotels in coordination with airlines, and preparing designated areas within the terminal for affected passengers.

The volcanic ash also affected operations at Radin Inten II Airport in Lampung. The airport was placed under an Aerodrome Closed status from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., affecting three domestic flights operating to and from Jakarta.

InJourney Airports said SRA procedures would also be implemented at other airports if passengers were affected by the knock-on effects of the closures at Soekarno-Hatta and Radin Inten II airports.

Passengers are advised to continue monitoring updates from their respective airlines, as changes to airport operating status may affect both departure and arrival schedules.
