Verona Films Unveils New Dan Bandung Special Clip Ahead of August Debut

JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com—Verona Films has stepped up the promotional campaign for its upcoming film Dan Bandung ahead of its theatrical release on August 20, 2026, by unveiling a new special clip featuring an intimate moment between the film’s two main characters, Basil and Elma. The clip is part of a series of promotional materials being released in stages to build anticipation for the film’s storyline.

Unlike previous previews, the latest special clip is accompanied by the gentle piano melody of the film’s theme song, “Dan Bandung,” which enhances its emotional atmosphere. The scene centers on Basil, played by Samo Rafael, and Elma, portrayed by Shanna Shannon, beneath the iconic Alun-alun Bandung overpass.

In the clip, Elma invites Basil to embrace a moment of calm amid the city’s hustle and bustle. Their dialogue portrays the space beneath the Alun-alun Bandung overpass as a temporary refuge where the protagonist can quiet her inner turmoil.

The clip concludes with Basil inviting Elma to another corner of Bandung that he believes can bring back her smile. The closing scene leaves viewers eager to discover what lies ahead for the two characters.

The special clip, released on Friday, July 24, 2026, is not the final stage of Verona Films’ promotional campaign. The production house has also announced that the official final trailer for Dan Bandung will be released on July 29, 2026.

Dan Bandung is adapted from a novel by Indonesian author Pidi Baiq. According to the writer, the film presents a fresher and more contemporary story for today’s younger generation, making it distinct from the Dilan series.

The film follows the cross-class romance between Basil (Samo Rafael) and Elma (Shanna Shannon), two teenagers from vastly different backgrounds who struggle to keep their relationship alive despite facing resistance from those around them.

Beyond its romantic storyline, Dan Bandung places significant emphasis on the female perspective through Elma’s character. Audiences will be taken through the emotional journey of a teenage girl dealing with strict parents, the trauma caused by excessive parental control, and the life-changing role of a supportive circle of female friends.

Through Basil, Elma gradually finds the courage to see and explore a new world that had long been closed off to her.

The project also marks the return of acclaimed director Rudi Soedjarwo—best known for What’s Up with Cinta? (Ada Apa Dengan Cinta?) and Mendadak Dangdut—to the coming-of-age romance genre.

With Dan Bandung, Rudi aims to immerse audiences in an authentic young love story, capturing the awkwardness of adolescence and the journey toward adulthood and self-discovery.
