Jakarta Unveils Integrated JIS–Ancol Infrastructure to Boost Urban Connectivity

JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com — The Jakarta Provincial Government marked the city’s 499th anniversary by inaugurating the Integrated JIS–Ancol Infrastructure, a major transportation project designed to strengthen connectivity between key destinations in North Jakarta and encourage greater use of public transportation.

The newly launched infrastructure includes the activation of the JIS Commuter Rail Station, a pedestrian bridge linking the area, and a new gateway connecting the district to Ancol. The facilities were officially inaugurated by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung at the JIS Station on Monday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Pramono emphasized that Jakarta’s development strategy is focused not only on building new infrastructure but also on improving connectivity between strategic urban areas.

“The connectivity between Jakarta International Stadium, Ancol, and the public transportation network is an important step toward creating a more modern and comfortable Jakarta,” he said.

According to the governor, Jakarta International Stadium and Ancol serve complementary roles in the city’s development. While JIS functions as a major venue for sports, entertainment, and national and international events, Ancol remains Jakarta’s leading tourism and recreational destination.

The integration of these two destinations is expected to improve visitor mobility and support the smooth operation of large-scale events through direct access via the new commuter rail station, pedestrian bridge, and enhanced transportation links.

“These facilities will encourage greater use of public transportation, both for daily activities and major events. People traveling for sports, tourism, work, or entertainment now have better access without relying heavily on private vehicles,” Pramono explained.

He added that integrated transportation and strong connectivity are key indicators of Jakarta’s competitiveness as it seeks to establish itself as a global city.

“We want to create an integrated sports, tourism, and entertainment district that meets international standards. This is a development that will be a source of pride for Jakarta residents while attracting global attention,” he said.

At the same event, Indonesian Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi announced that the JIS Commuter Rail Station officially began operations on June 22 and is now serving passengers.

“As of today, the station is fully operational and open to the public. Travel time across the route is approximately 15 minutes end-to-end, while trips to Kota Station take around 10 minutes. The station will continue to be developed into a permanent facility,” Dudy said.

The Jakarta administration also expressed appreciation to the various stakeholders involved in the project, including transportation operators, regional-owned enterprise PT Jakarta Propertindo, and PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk, which supported the construction of the pedestrian bridge connecting the JIS and Ancol areas.

The inauguration represents one of the flagship infrastructure milestones unveiled as part of Jakarta’s 499th anniversary celebrations and reflects the city’s broader ambition to build a more integrated, accessible, and sustainable transportation system ahead of its 500th anniversary in 2027.
