Ahead of ‘Mudik’ 2026, Bridgestone Indonesia Highlights Tire Readiness for Hybrid Vehicles

Jakartaweekly.com – With the 2026 Lebaran homecoming season approaching, Indonesians planning to travel by private vehicle are urged to prepare thoroughly — not only mapping out their destinations but also ensuring their cars are in optimal condition for a safe and comfortable journey.

The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) projects that public mobility during the 2026 mudik season will reach 143.91 million people, equivalent to 50.6% of Indonesia’s population. A 2026 survey by the Transportation Policy Agency indicates that approximately 76.24 million people — or 52.98% — are expected to use private vehicles.

This significant surge highlights the importance of vehicle readiness, particularly tire conditions, which play a critical role in safety and travel efficiency. In this context, Bridgestone Tire Indonesia is reminding motorists to inspect their tires before embarking on long-distance trips — especially for those driving hybrid vehicles.

Hybrid cars are typically heavier than conventional vehicles and rely on a combination of gasoline engines and electric motors. As a result, tire performance directly affects energy efficiency, ride comfort, and overall safety.

“Mudik Lebaran is an important moment for Indonesians to reunite with their families in their hometowns. Proper tire preparation — especially for hybrid vehicle users — will help maintain energy efficiency while ensuring road safety. Bridgestone, through our TOMO (Toko Model) retail partner network, is committed to supporting motorists so they can arrive safely at their destinations,” said Mukiat Sutikno, President Director of Bridgestone Indonesia.

Hybrid Tire Preparation Guide Before Mudik

1. Choose the Right Tires for Energy Efficiency

Opt for tires with low rolling resistance to increase mileage, reduce energy consumption, and lower CO₂ emissions.

2. Check Tire Pressure According to Manufacturer Recommendations

  • Measure tire pressure when the tires are cold using a reliable gauge.
  • Conduct checks at least every two weeks.
  • Follow the recommended pressure listed on the sticker located on the driver’s door pillar.
Proper pressure ensures efficiency, stability, and road safety.

3. Ensure Tires Are in Prime Condition

  • Check tread depth and make sure it has not reached the TWI (Tread Wear Indicator) limit.
  • Inspect for cracks, bulges, or uneven wear.
  • Perform wheel alignment (spooring), balancing, and tire rotation before long trips.

4. Inspect Spare Tire and Emergency Equipment

  • Ensure the spare tire has slightly higher pressure than regular tires.
  • Check the compressor and sealant fluid in the tire repair kit.
  • Carry essential tools such as a lug wrench, jack, and flashlight.

With millions expected to hit the road this Lebaran, proactive vehicle maintenance — particularly tire readiness — remains a key factor in ensuring a safe and smooth journey home. (***)
