Hyundai and Customs Partner to Boost Indonesia’s Automotive Supply Chain

BEKASI – Jakartaweekly.com, PT Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (HMMI) has reaffirmed its commitment to growing alongside Indonesia by hosting a strategic training program on global Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) for its business partners. Held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the Hyundai plant, the event was attended by 109 management representatives from HMMI suppliers and received direct support from the Indonesian Directorate General of Customs and Excise.

Hyunchul Bang, President Director of PT Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia, explained in a press release:

“At HMMI, we believe that the growth of Indonesia’s automotive industry must go hand in hand with the progress of local industries and business partners. Through this FTA training program, we hope to not only strengthen the corporate supply chain but also broaden insights and practical knowledge. This will help our partners boost competitiveness and expand opportunities in the global market. Furthermore, we aim to build a stronger and more sustainable industrial ecosystem.”

Through this initiative, HMMI aims to strengthen the competitiveness and readiness of Indonesian suppliers in navigating an increasingly dynamic global trade environment. The training provided an in-depth understanding of international trade regulations, the utilization of FTAs, import-export procedures, and opportunities for Indonesian industries to expand their participation in global supply chains.

As the automotive industry evolves toward broader international integration, HMMI believes that empowering local business partners with strategic knowledge is a crucial step in creating sustainable industrial growth in Indonesia. Beyond improving operational understanding, the program encourages suppliers to maximize business opportunities through trade facilitation policies that can enhance efficiency and global market access.

“This program is not just about understanding trade regulations; it is about empowering Indonesian industry players to be better prepared for global challenges and opportunities. By collaborating with the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, we want to create meaningful synergy between the industry and the government to develop local business partners who are capable, adaptive, and globally competitive,” Hyunchul Bang added.

Speaker at the seminar, Didik Hariyanto, who serves as the Head of the Free Trade Cooperation Section III at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, expressed his appreciation:

“As a user of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) facilities, PT Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia has shown an excellent commitment to compliance with customs regulations. The company consistently carries out positive activities that can serve as an example for other industry players, particularly through regular educational efforts for business partners and routine, sample-based verification processes to ensure compliance with regulations.”

HMMI has run this initiative for the past three years, helping participants gain a practical understanding of how FTAs can support business expansion, boost export competitiveness, and create more efficient supply chain operations. The differentiator this time is HMMI’s collaboration with the Directorate General of Customs and Excise to share knowledge that helps suppliers adapt more effectively to global market demands while contributing to Indonesia’s economic growth.

Mela Silvia Agustina from PT Kyoraku Blowmolding Indonesia, one of the participants, shared her appreciation. “The FTA Education seminar organized by Hyundai was truly an eye-opener for us. As a supplier, understanding dynamic global free trade agreement regulations can often be confusing. However, through the highly structured and applicable material presentation, our team is now much more confident in optimizing tariff benefits.”

The collaborative training program with the Directorate General of Customs and Excise reflects the importance of synergy between government and industry in supporting Indonesia’s manufacturing competitiveness. By bringing together government experts and supplier management representatives, the program served as a valuable platform for discussion, learning, and strengthening collaboration.

HMMI remains confident that progress in Indonesia’s automotive industry can only be achieved through strong collaboration and continuous capability development across the entire industrial ecosystem. Through initiatives like this, HMMI hopes to contribute not only to industrial advancement but also to empowering Indonesian suppliers in building a stronger and more globally competitive future.
