Jakartaweekly.com — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has announced that all public transportation services operated by the Jakarta Provincial Government will be free for two days during the Eid al-Fitr holiday. The initiative aims to ease mobility while creating a more festive atmosphere across the capital.
“I have decided that to welcome Eid al-Fitr, all transportation managed by the Jakarta Provincial Government will be free for two days. This includes MRT, LRT, TransJakarta, TransJabodetabek, JakLingko, and Mikrotrans,” Pramono said during a community iftar event in West Jakarta on Monday (March 16).
The free transport policy will apply on Eid day and the following day (H+1). Despite the waiver, passengers are still required to tap their electronic payment cards, with a nominal Rp1 charge applied for system recording purposes.
In addition to free transportation, the provincial government will also grant complimentary access to several major tourist attractions for holders of the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP). Eligible visitors will be able to enter destinations such as Ancol Dreamland, Ragunan Zoo, and National Monument at no cost.
Pramono also introduced the “Mudik to Jakarta” concept this year, offering an alternative for residents who choose not to travel خارج the city during the holiday. As part of the program, the administration is collaborating with shopping centers and hotels to launch discount festivals of up to 70 percent, aimed at boosting economic activity during the Eid holiday period.
“The Jakarta administration has provided tax relief for shopping centers and hotels. We will host a discount festival of up to 70 percent,” he explained.
At the same time, the government continues to support traditional homecoming travel through its annual free mudik program. This year, participation has increased to over 30,000 travelers, who will be transported using more than 750 buses.
To further enliven the celebrations, the city will also hold a Car Free Night on the eve of Eid and allow communities to organize traditional torch parades (pawai obor).
“We are providing as much space as possible. Hopefully, this Eid will leave a meaningful impression on everyone celebrating,” Pramono added.
He emphasized that community iftar gatherings are not merely ceremonial, but serve as an important platform for dialogue between the government and citizens, strengthening unity during the holy month of Ramadan.
The event also included the distribution of aid to orphans and underprivileged communities, reflecting the administration’s commitment to social welfare.
The Jakarta Provincial Government expressed appreciation to community leaders, members of the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), and residents for their role in maintaining harmony and social cohesion across the city.
In closing, Pramono urged the public to remain calm and wise in responding to information amid ongoing global uncertainties.
“We encourage Jakarta residents to stay composed and thoughtful in navigating various information, especially in today’s global dynamics. With a safe and conducive environment, we hope Jakarta will remain an orderly, harmonious, and comfortable city for all,” he concluded.
