JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com—Indonesia’s motorcycle export industry delivered mixed results during the January–May 2026 period. While exports of Completely Knocked Down (CKD) motorcycles declined compared with the same period last year, shipments of Completely Built Up (CBU) motorcycles and components recorded solid growth.

Data from the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) showed that CKD motorcycle exports totaled 3,219,392 units in January–May 2026, down 6.46% from 3,441,847 units in the corresponding period of 2025.

The decline in CKD exports came despite stronger performance in fully assembled motorcycle shipments. During the first five months of 2026, CBU exports reached 266,752 units, representing a 19.81% increase from 222,647 units in January–May 2025.

Even stronger growth was recorded in motorcycle component exports. Part-by-part exports totaled 67,034,869 units during January–May 2026, surging 29.93% from 51,590,665 units in the same period last year.

The sharp increase in component exports has become one of the key drivers of Indonesia’s motorcycle industry performance in global markets. Despite weaker CKD shipments, demand for Indonesian-made motorcycle components and fully assembled motorcycles continued to grow at a healthy pace.

Meanwhile, the domestic market also posted growth, albeit at a more modest rate. Wholesale motorcycle sales—defined as shipments from manufacturers to dealers—reached 2,614,451 units in January–May 2026, up 0.74% from 2,595,303 units in the same period a year earlier.

On a year-on-year basis, CKD exports stood at 697,614 units in May 2026, down from 717,251 units in May 2025. Weaker shipments in several preceding months also weighed on cumulative CKD export performance through the end of May.

In contrast, CBU exports rose to 54,759 units in May 2026, compared with 49,618 units in May 2025. The year-on-year increase further supported cumulative CBU export growth during the first five months of the year.
