JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com – PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok Pangkal Balam branch recorded cargo handling of 391,624 tonnes in the first quarter of 2026. Liquid bulk accounted for 35.18% of the total, reflecting the role of commodities such as crude palm oil (CPO) in the port’s operations.
Alamsyah, Branch Manager of PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok Pangkal Balam branch, said the company continues to prioritise liquid bulk services, particularly CPO, in line with the palm oil potential in Bangka Belitung province.
“We continue to strengthen our services, particularly in handling CPO and its derivatives, through operational innovations that improve efficiency while maintaining safety and environmental standards,” he said in a statement seen on Monday, April 20, 2026.

To support operations, the company has implemented a portable drop tank system equipped with submersible pumps for CPO handling. A truck losing system also enables the simultaneous servicing of up to four trucks. In terms of safety and environmental protection, the facility is equipped with oil spill response systems, including oil booms, dispersants and support vessels.
The company is also preparing an additional innovation in the form of a drop tank cover to allow loading activities to continue during rainfall. With average rainfall reaching 12 days per month, the innovation is expected to increase loading capacity to 5,280 tonnes per month.
In addition to CPO, services also cover palm oil derivatives. Since mid-2025, the Pangkal Balam branch has handled palm kernel shells, with dry bulk volume reaching 310,441 tonnes in 2025, up from 185,229 tonnes in 2024. As of March 2026, dry bulk volume stood at 85,410 tonnes.

As part of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo), the Pangkal Balam branch is supported by facilities including a 649-metre berth, cargo handling equipment and storage areas.
Pangkal Balam port operates a multipurpose terminal comprising concrete berths, sheet pile berths, a traditional vessel jetty, Ketapang I berth and a trestle. The port handles commodities such as fertiliser, cement, construction materials, rubber, palm kernel meal, shells and containers.
The Pangkal Balam branch serves agricultural and plantation commodities, in line with agriculture as a development priority in South Bangka, with operational areas in Pangkal Balam and Belinyu.
Separately, the branch recently handled 3,500 tonnes of CPO and its derivatives loaded onto BG Prima Samudra IV for shipment from Pangkal Balam to Dumai. The vessel berthed on April 16 and loading operations were completed over several days.
