JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com – Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) has underscored the importance of collaboration and supply chain transformation to sustain the competitiveness of Indonesia’s automotive industry amid increasingly complex global challenges.

TMMIN President Director Nandi Julyanto said the company continues to strengthen an adaptive and competitive supply chain through synergy with the government, the development of biofuels and hydrogen, as well as the enhancement of human resources and research.

“Industry challenges ahead are becoming more complex, making collaboration key,” he said in a statement on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.

He noted that Indonesia’s automotive sector is currently facing multiple pressures, ranging from a stagnant domestic market and shifting global geopolitical dynamics to the accelerating trend of electrification.

These conditions affect not only vehicle manufacturers but also suppliers, which are increasingly required to adapt to technological advancements.

In response, TMMIN held the TMMIN Supplier Convention 2026 at the Nusantara International Convention Exhibition on Monday (April 20). The forum served as a strategic platform to strengthen synergy across the national automotive supply chain ecosystem.

Carrying the theme “Stronger Together: Building Resilient, Competitive and Supply Chain Transformation,” the management highlighted the importance of a multi-pathway strategy in navigating the transition toward carbon neutrality.

The approach includes the development of various vehicle technologies, such as hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery electric, as well as fuel cell and flexible-fuel vehicles based on bioethanol.

In addition to announcing new suppliers within the electrification ecosystem, the event featured a vehicle exhibition showcasing collaborative products and panel discussions addressing policies and opportunities to enhance the competitiveness of the automotive industry, both for domestic and export markets.

Julyanto added that Indonesia’s automotive industry remains one of the key drivers of the national economy, contributing to the employment of more than 360.000 workers across the value chain.

Local content levels have also surpassed 80%, supported by a supplier ecosystem that has developed since the late 1970s.

“Export performance has also shown a positive trend, with total shipments reaching 3 million completely built-up vehicles to more than 100 countries,” he said.

In the electrification segment, exports of hybrid vehicles such as the Toyota Innova Zenix HEV and Yaris Cross HEV have exceeded 56.000 units as of the first quarter of 2026.

On the same occasion, TMMIN Vice President Director Bob Azam stressed that the automotive industry plays a strategic role in job creation and boosting national exports.

“This momentum must be maintained through close collaboration between industry and the government to deliver broader impacts on Indonesia’s economy,” Bob said.

Currently, TMMIN partners with more than 240 tier-1 suppliers, as well as over 500 tier-2 and tier-3 suppliers. These partnerships are considered vital to strengthening industrial self-reliance, reducing import dependency, and promoting the growth of small and medium enterprises.

He added that management remains optimistic that stronger synergy among industry players, supported by government policies, will be key to navigating the acceleration of electrification while maintaining Indonesia’s competitiveness in the global market.
