Deputy Agriculture Minister Urges Bali Coffee Farmers to Maintain Quality of Local Coffee

Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Sudaryono (ISTIMEWA)

Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Sudaryono, encouraged coffee farmers in Badung Regency, Bali, to preserve the quality of their local coffee, aiming for competitiveness against international coffee products.

Known as “Mas Dar,” Deputy Minister Sudaryono urged farmers to boost productivity to meet national market demand.

“We have local coffee, so let’s not end up consuming foreign products. The government is ready to support seed supply, and we must be smart about retaining customers. This is essential for us,” he said while visiting the Agro Techno Park in Badung Regency, Bali, on Thursday (11/7/2024).

Additionally, Deputy Minister Sudaryono emphasized the importance of modernization in Indonesia’s coffee agriculture, including the use of superior seeds, efficient machinery, and data-driven tools to measure yields.

According to Sudaryono, farmers need data on per-hectare production to enhance productivity. This is crucial for fulfilling domestic market needs and competing globally.

“National coffee plantations must be modern—modern tools, modern marketing. We need clarity on who the farmers are and how to grow coffee effectively. One hectare’s yield, for instance, should be tracked as data,” he stated.

Deputy Minister Sudaryono also expressed hope for Indonesian coffee to gain wider global recognition. Indonesia’s coffee boasts excellent quality and has significant potential to expand internationally.

“We want Indonesian coffee to be known worldwide, not just locally. We aim to dominate the global market while encouraging Indonesians to consume our local coffee,” he added.
