JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com — French President Emmanuel Macron stated that he had spoken directly with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian regarding the escalating conflict in the Middle East, particularly following attacks on civilian infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates and several vessels, while also preparing a multinational mission.

In his statement, Macron expressed deep concern over the worsening situation and condemned the attacks, which he described as unjustifiable.

“I conveyed my deep concern over the ongoing escalation and condemned the unjustifiable attacks on civilian infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates and several ships,” Macron said via his social media account on X some time ago.

Macron emphasized that all parties must immediately and unconditionally lift the blockade in the strategic strait in order to restore international freedom of navigation as it existed before the conflict.

“All parties must immediately lift the blockade in the Strait, without delay and without conditions,” he said.

In response to the tensions, France and the United Kingdom have established a multinational mission aimed at restoring the confidence of global shipping operators and insurance companies in the security of international trade routes.

Macron stated that this mission would operate independently from parties directly involved in the conflict. The initial deployment of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle is said to be part of this strategy.

“The multinational mission formed by France and the United Kingdom can help restore the confidence of shipping operators and insurance companies,” he said.

Macron also revealed that he had encouraged the Iranian president to seize diplomatic opportunities by supporting the mission, while also planning to discuss the matter with U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to Macron, stability in the strait is a crucial factor in advancing negotiations concerning Iran’s nuclear program, ballistic missile development, and broader regional geopolitical dynamics.

“Restoring calm in the Strait will help advance negotiations on nuclear, ballistic, and regional issues,” he said.

France believes that the involvement of European countries will also be an essential element, particularly in relation to the lifting of sanctions on Iran.
