OJK Asks Banks to Block 38,375 Accounts Linked to Online Gambling

JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com—The Financial Service Authority (OJK) has asked banks to block 38,375 accounts suspected of being linked to online gambling activities, based on data provided by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs. The number is going up from around 36.735 accounts. 

The OJK has also asked banks to broaden the scope of their review by closing accounts associated with the same Population Identification Number (NIK) as individuals suspected of engaging in online gambling activities, as well as conducting enhanced due diligence (EDD) on those accounts.  

“Regarding efforts to eradicate online gambling, which has a broad impact on social and economic aspects, the OJK has asked banks to conduct enhanced due diligence and/or block (the accounts),” OJK Board of Commissioners Member Dian Ediana Rae said at a press conference on Monday, September 7, 2026. 

Separately, the OJK revoked the business license of PT BPR Citra Bersabda Abadi in Bekasi, effective August 19, 2026. 

The OJK has also issued order and administrative sanctions against 115 Financial Services Business Providers (PUJK), while 146 PUJK have provided compensation to customers for losses totaling Rp77.26 billion between January and August 9, 2026. 

From January 1 through August 31, 2026, the OJK imposed 74 administrative sanctions in the form of written warnings and 43 administrative fines totaling Rp8.73 billion for violations of consumer protection regulations, including those related to advertising information, debt collection officers, and transparency. 

“To prevent similar violations from recurring, the OJK has also issued orders requiring specific corrective measures, including adjusting and/or stopping the publication of advertisements that do not comply with regulations, as well as adjusting policies and conducting evaluations based on the results of direct and indirect supervision. These measures are intended to ensure that financial services providers consistently comply with consumer and public protection regulations,” he explained. 

In terms of consumer services, from January 1 to August 14, 2026, OJK received 458,585 service request through the Consumer Protection Portal Application (APPK), including 70,523 complaints. 

Of the total complaints, 22,668 came from the banking sector, 31,115 from the financial technology industry, 14,311 from financing companies, 1,253 from insurance companies, and the remaining 1,176 complaints were related to the capital market and other non-bank financial industry sectors. 

From January 1 through August 31, 2026, OJK received 30,328 complaints related to illegal entities. Of these, 26,729 complaints concerned illegal online lending, 3,339 involved illegal investments, and 200 related to illegal pawn businesses. 

The Task Force for the Eradication of Illegal Financial Activities (Satgas PASTI) also identified and shut down 951 illegal online lending entities, 242 illegal investment entities, 27 illegal pawn businesses, and two other illegal financial activities found on various websites and applications that could potentially harm the public.
