JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com — A collision between the long-distance Argo Bromo Anggrek train and a commuter line (KRL) in the Bekasi Timur Station area has resulted in fatalities and dozens of injuries. Based on preliminary data as of 02:00 a.m. WIB, four people were reported dead and 79 others injured.
All victims have been evacuated and are receiving medical treatment at several referral hospitals in Bekasi, including RSUD Bekasi, RS Bella Bekasi, RS Primaya, RS Mitra Plumbon Cibitung, RS Bakti Kartini, RS Siloam Bekasi Timur, RS Hermina, as well as RS Mitra Keluarga Bekasi Timur and Barat.
Handling of the victims has been the top priority since the outset of the incident. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) expressed its deepest condolences to the victims and affected families, while ensuring that the evacuation process was carried out as swiftly as possible with safety as the primary concern.
Meanwhile, all 240 passengers aboard the Argo Bromo Anggrek train were reported safe after being successfully evacuated from the scene.
KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin stated that all victims had been transported to hospitals for treatment. “The death toll stands at four, with 79 people injured. All victims have been taken to hospitals to receive the best possible care,” he said in a statement on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
The evacuation process involved multiple agencies, including Basarnas, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and medical teams that responded swiftly at the scene.
Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi emphasized that the current focus remains on evacuation and victim treatment.
“We are focusing all efforts on evacuation and handling of the victims. As for the cause of the incident, we have handed it over to the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) for further investigation,” Dudy said.
KAI has also entrusted the investigation process to KNKT to thoroughly determine the cause of the incident.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba also conveyed apologies to customers and condolences to all victims, stressing that the company’s current priority is to ensure all victims receive the best possible care.
As handling efforts continue, the downstream track on the Bekasi–Tambun line has resumed operations since 01:04 a.m. WIB. However, the upstream track remains under evacuation and repair. KAI is continuing efforts to accelerate operational recovery while maintaining safety as the top priority.
KAI has also adjusted commuter line (KRL) operations in line with track conditions to allow services to gradually resume. An information post has been set up at Bekasi Timur Station to assist passengers’ families in obtaining updates.
For affected passengers, KAI is offering full ticket refunds, with claims available for up to seven days. Specifically for Argo Bromo Anggrek passengers on the Surabaya Pasarturi–Gambir route, onward transport in the form of buses has been provided to Gambir Station.
Meanwhile, all long-distance train services from Gambir and Pasarsenen stations have been temporarily suspended to support handling efforts at the site.
Several long-distance train services canceled on April 27–28, 2026 include KA Gunungjati, Parahyangan, Argo Muria, Mataram, Gumarang, Singasari, Jayabaya, Manahan, Progo, Argo Anjasmoro, Tawang Jaya Premium, Purwojaya, Madiun Jaya, Argo Sindoro, and Menoreh.
