[UPDATE] Death Toll in Train Collision at Bekasi Timur Station Rises to 14

JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com — PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has updated the number of casualties following the collision between the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and a commuter line electric train (KRL) in the vicinity of Bekasi Timur Station, Bekasi, West Java. The death toll has risen from 4 to 14, while the number of injured has reached 84.

KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin stated that, based on the latest data as of 08:45 a.m. WIB, a total of 14 fatalities had been recorded.

“The deceased have been transported to the Polri Hospital in Kramat Jati for further identification. Meanwhile, 84 injured victims have received medical treatment at various healthcare facilities,” he said on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

He added that victims are being treated at several healthcare facilities, including Bekasi Regional General Hospital (RSUD Bekasi), Bella Hospital Bekasi, Primaya Hospital, Mitra Plumbon Hospital Cibitung, Bakti Kartini Hospital, Siloam Hospital Bekasi Timur, Hermina Hospital, as well as Mitra Keluarga Hospitals in East and West Bekasi.

KAI also stated that passengers’ belongings recovered from the scene have been secured and are currently being handled through a lost and found service. The inventory and management of these items are being carried out in coordination with the police to support the identification process and further handling needs.

The company has set up an Emergency Response Post and an Information Center at Bekasi Timur Station to assist families in obtaining information about victims and passengers. Families can contact the KAI Contact Center at 121.

For the time being, Bekasi Timur Station is not serving passenger boarding or alighting. Commuter line services are operating only up to Bekasi Station, while the downstream track has been partially reopened for train operations under limited arrangements.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba reiterated the company’s condolences and apology to all affected passengers and the families of the victims.

“We extend our deepest condolences to those who lost their lives and to the families they leave behind, as well as to all affected passengers. Our current focus is to ensure that every victim receives the best possible care, that families obtain the information they need, and that all processes are carried out with due caution and strong coordination,” Anne said.
