Garuda Indonesia Resumes Flights from Husein Airport, Reopens Bandung–Denpasar Route

JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com — Indonesia’s national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia will resume operations from Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung by reinstating its direct round-trip service between Bandung and Denpasar starting on August 14, 2026.

The route’s reopening marks Garuda Indonesia’s return to Husein Airport after the airport was reactivated to accommodate commercial jet operations.

Garuda Indonesia President Director Glenny Kairupan said the reopening of the Bandung–Denpasar route is part of the airline’s transformation strategy to optimize its domestic network in line with market demand and operational readiness.

“The reopening of the Bandung–Denpasar route not only strengthens direct connectivity between West Java and Bali, but also forms part of Garuda Indonesia’s business transformation to ensure that every route is developed based on market demand, operational readiness, and its potential contribution to the company’s long-term performance,” Glenny said in Jakarta on Friday, August 7, 2026.

He added that the route also marks Garuda Indonesia’s return to Husein Sastranegara Airport after commercial jet operations at the airport were suspended in October 2023.

The inaugural flight is scheduled to depart Husein Sastranegara Airport at 11:30 a.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB) on Friday, August 14, arriving at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali at 2:20 p.m. Central Indonesia Time (WITA).

The return flight from Denpasar will depart at 9:10 a.m. WITA and is scheduled to arrive in Bandung at 10:00 a.m. WIB.

Garuda Indonesia will operate the Bandung–Denpasar route four times a week—on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays—using a Boeing 737-800NG aircraft configured with 12 Business Class seats and 150 Economy Class seats.

Subsequent regular flights from Bandung will depart at 1:10 p.m. WIB and arrive in Denpasar at 3:55 p.m. WITA, while flights from Denpasar will depart at 11:35 a.m. WITA and land in Bandung at 12:25 p.m. WIB.

According to Glenny, the reinstated direct service is expected to strengthen connectivity between West Java and Bali while supporting the growth of the tourism sector in both regions.

“The sustained growth of tourism activities in both Bali and Bandung reflects the significant potential for greater mobility between West Java and Bali. We hope this direct service will make it easier, particularly for travelers from Bali, to explore West Java’s leading tourist destinations,” he said.

He added that the route is also expected to boost the movement of tourists, business travelers, and creative economy products between the two regions.

Bali’s position as one of Indonesia’s main international aviation gateways is also expected to create greater opportunities to attract international visitors to West Java.

Garuda Indonesia’s return to Bandung will be complemented by Citilink, which is set to launch flights from Husein Sastranegara Airport to several destinations beginning on August 17, 2026.

Glenny said the synergy between the two airlines under the Garuda Indonesia Group is expected to provide passengers with a wider range of travel options while strengthening regional connectivity and supporting economic growth in West Java.
