Automechanika Jakarta Launches Fringe Programme to Boost Automotive Ecosystem

JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com — Automechanika Jakarta 2026 will feature a series of supporting events, or fringe programmes, designed to enhance the knowledge, skills and global connections of Indonesia’s automotive industry players.

Fiona Chiew, General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, said the programmes were prepared as Indonesia continues to play a growing role in the regional automotive industry, particularly as global supply chains increasingly shift toward Southeast Asia to support business growth and development.

“Indonesia’s automotive market is now taking on a much larger role regionally, particularly as global supply chains are looking toward Southeast Asia for growth and business development,” Fiona said in Jakarta on Friday, August 28, 2026.

According to Fiona, Automechanika Jakarta’s fringe programmes will provide local professionals with insights into global markets and practical skills. At the same time, the programmes will offer international participants a closer look at opportunities arising from the development of Indonesia’s automotive industry.

Automechanika Jakarta will be held from September 24-27, 2026, at the Nusantara International Convention Exhibition (NICE) in Jakarta. The inaugural exhibition is expected to bring together around 350 exhibitors across a 20,000-square-meter exhibition area.

In addition to the exhibition, a series of forums, workshops, panel discussions and interactive activities will explore various developments in the automotive industry while connecting them with the needs of the Indonesian market.

Meanwhile, Yusak Kristian, Chairman of the Indonesian Automotive Equipment and Motor Industry Association (GIAMM), said strengthening Indonesia’s automotive manufacturing capabilities needs to go hand in hand with aligning domestic industry standards with global developments.

“Through skills development and technical exchanges, activities at Automechanika Jakarta will support the long-term transformation of our automotive ecosystem,” Yusak said.

He said enhancing local expertise and adopting smart and sustainable practices would be essential to maintaining the resilience and competitiveness of the national automotive industry while strengthening Indonesia’s position in the regional supply chain.

Discussing Global Automotive Trends

One of the key agendas is the Automotive Mobility Solutions Conference, which will take place from September 24-26, 2026. The three-day conference will cover a range of industry developments, including electrification, Industry 4.0, artificial intelligence (AI)-driven mobility, fleet management and component tracking in after-sales services.

The conference will also address more circular and low-emission operations. One session will explore the use of AI-powered smart factories to reduce production bottlenecks, enabling vehicle assembly processes to become faster, more flexible and easier to customize.

The session will be delivered by Omar Abouelmagd, IT Lead Consultant for Smart Manufacturing Solutions at Lenovo Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Georg Schrank, Business Development Manager at AVL List GmbH, will discuss battery degradation testing to determine the potential for battery reuse or recycling by comparing energy storage with raw-material extraction.

Binu George, Country Manager of TotalEnergies Renewables Distributed Generation Indonesia, will discuss the integration of second-life batteries with solar and wind energy. The technology is considered to have the potential to help stabilize electricity grids in remote island regions, reduce reliance on diesel generators and expand rural electrification.

Strengthening Supply Chains and Skills

Automechanika Jakarta will also host the Supply Chain Collaboration Forum on September 24, 2026. The forum will bring together local and international manufacturers, Indonesian industry partners and after-sales service providers to exchange information and strengthen the automotive value chain.

Discussions will cover regional supply chain strategies, government policies aimed at reducing emissions, efforts to improve industry competitiveness and incentives that could encourage investment. Representatives from GAIKINDO will also discuss programmes to empower local small and medium-sized industries.

Meanwhile, the Technology & Skills Workshop, taking place from September 24-26, 2026, will provide theoretical and practical training for technicians. The sessions will cover technological developments required for the repair and maintenance of modern vehicles, including electric vehicles.

Several sessions will focus on modern diagnostic systems, specialized equipment for electric vehicles and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) calibration.

TÜV Rheinland will provide training on high-voltage vehicle repair and safety protocols, including isolation procedures, hazard management and certified practices for electric and hybrid vehicles.

Magicmotorsport, meanwhile, will hold hands-on sessions on vehicle performance optimization through ECU remapping and road simulator technology, including tuning techniques and the requirements of workshops and motorsport applications.

Offering Hands-On Experiences

Visitors can also take part in the Xperience Zone from September 24-27, 2026. The interactive area will allow participants to try various activities related to automotive mechanical work, including dent repair, spot welding, vehicle polishing, plasma cutting and virtual reality (VR)-based spray painting.

The programme is designed to help workshop operators assess products and technologies firsthand before making purchasing decisions, while also developing operational techniques and exploring new revenue opportunities.

To broaden participants’ understanding of Indonesia’s automotive industry, Automechanika Jakarta will also offer Industry Tours on September 23 and 25, 2026.

The tours will take participants to several industrial facilities, including Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM), which operates the company’s largest research and development center outside Japan; PT Akebono Brake Astra Indonesia (AAIJ); Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM); and the Vehicle Testing and Certification Center (VTCC).

VTCC features a test track that supports electric vehicle certification requirements under United Nations Regulations (UNR). Registration for the industry tours is open until September 4, 2026.

In addition, the Business Matching Programme on September 24-25, 2026, will connect exhibitors with prospective buyers through one-on-one business meetings tailored to the needs of both parties.

Showcasing Automotive Culture

Automechanika Jakarta will also present autoFEST@JKT, bringing automotive culture into the exhibition through a range of interactive activities, classic car displays and automotive services.

The agenda includes the AMJKT Grand Prix Cup, a motorsport simulator racing competition; a Car Slalom Test in the outdoor area; and Auto Service Day, which will offer free wheel alignment and tire nitrogen inflation services.

Visitors will also be able to explore vehicle modification trends, ranging from audio tuning to classic car customization, and search for rare components at the Auto Bazaar.
